JACUMBA HOT SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force notified residents of Jacumba Hot Springs and Boulevard Thursday about the placement of a sexually violent predator. Law enforcement officers went door to door in the East San Diego County communities to make neighbors aware that Alan Earl James will be placed into the area on or before April 25. James is scheduled to move to 45612 Old Highway 80 after he is released from Department of State Hospitals Coalinga, sheriff’s officials said in a news release. The victims were primarily girls, but boys were also preyed upon, officials said. Some of James’ victims argued against his release. “He will re-offend if he gets out. He did it once before. Just before noon Saturday, a team of volunteer rescued climbers with Portland Mountain Rescue made contact with a 35-year-old injured climber who fell several hundred feet near Hogsback Ridge.Rescuers verified that the climber was in serious but stable condition. A helicopter with the Oregon Army National Guard was unable to reach the patient because of high winds.The helicopter returned to the mountain, still battling extremely dangerous winds, was able to drop of a National Guard Medic on the mountain to tend to the patient.The helicopter was forced to return to the Portland-area to refuel, but once again returned to once again try and evacuate the patient.The decision was made to transport the patient with a snowcat to a lower elevation.At approximately 7:45 p.m., the rescue crew that was with the patient was able to safely get the patient to Timberline Lodge parking lot where the Air Medic Evacuation Unit was waiting to transport the him to the hospital.The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office would like to extend a sincere thank you to our partners who assisted in the search and rescue effort: Portland Mountain Rescue, American Medical Response Reach and Treat, Hood River Crag Rats, Mountain Wave Search and Rescue, and the Oregon Army National Guard. 1280

JACUMBA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Border Patrol and a host of other government agencies are investigating after authorities found a cross-border tunnel in the east San Diego County town of Jacumba.The tunnel was discovered by Mexican State Police on September 19 just 221 feet south of the U.S./Mexico boundary.On October 4, agents found an entry point that was roughly 31 feet deep. The total length of the tunnel is 627 feet, 336 feet of which is in the United States.The average length of the tunnel was three feet high and two and a half feet wide. An exit shaft was discovered, but didn't break the surface into the U.S. RELATED: Cross-border tunnel leading to KFC found in YumaOn top of the massive tunnel, authorities discovered a complex system used to light and ventilate the tunnel. The system included solar panels used to run the electrical, lighting and ventilation systems, and a pump system used to get rid of any water inside the tunnel.Authorities didn’t say whether any arrests have been made or what the tunnel was supposed to be used for, though the Drug Enforcement Administration is one of the investigating agencies. 1149
