SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say they have arrested a 23-year-old man in a fatal shooting in the East Village this week.Tyler Cosby of San Diego was arrested on Thursday for the murder of a 37-year-old man shot to death outside a downtown parking garage on Tuesday, according to SDPD.The victim, a 37-year-old white male who has yet to be publicly identified by police, was found in the area of 14th and G streets shortly after 10 p.m. Officers responding to several reports of gunshots arrived to find the man lying on the sidewalk at `1400 G St., near a parking garage entrance.The victim had at least one gunshot wound, according to police. Officers and paramedics provided first aid, but he died at the scene.Police have not said if there is a motive or detailed the events leading up to the shooting.Anyone with information about the case is asked to call SDPD's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 947

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some Point Loma Nazarene University students have been told to shelter in place after a cluster of students tested positive for coronavirus.The university says it’s seen an increase of 12 cases. According to the school, 50 students were identified as close contacts.“A cluster of cases and potential exposures have been identified in the following dorm floors:Klassen Hall - 3rd North: three positive cases in isolation Hendricks Hall - 1st South: four positive cases in isolation Young Hall - 4th Floor: three positive cases in isolation Per university protocol, these positive cases are already in isolation in specific university housing outside of the potentially impacted floors,” the school said.The university says it is also monitoring two unrelated cases in Nease Hall.Read the full letter from the school below: 849

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Saturday was a picturesque day in San Diego with many people enjoying outdoor dining, but the opportunity is slipping away due to Governor Gavin Newsom’s new stay-at-home orders.“We have a really close community of workers here, and to see it shut down again is really sad,” Abby Pekary said.Pekary has been welcoming guests into Little Italy’s Nonna for more than two years. By Monday, she could be out of a job due to Newsom’s new orders.Pekary is a full-time student at San Diego State University, hostessing to save up to eventually move out of her parent’s house.Her latest obstacle from the state is Newsom’s regional shutdown order, limiting restaurants to takeout or delivery only. The order also forces bars and wineries to close amid COVID-19.“I had a couple people who during the first shutdown they actually moved back to Bay Area because they were living here and just because they were out of a job they had to live with their families,” Pekary added.Unlike the first shutdown in March of 2020, there is no federal stimulus to cushion the fall. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starting this fall, the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine is offering the first-ever certificate program specializing in medical marijuana.The three-semester class promises to teach health care professionals the basics of medical cannabis, so they can begin to use it in their practice."We thought it was important for health care professionals to have objective information about medical marijuana," says school President Jack Miller.Miller says part of the program's purpose is to help dispel some of the myths surrounding medical marijuana."There's a lot of misinformation," Miller says. "If CBD worked for everything that people said it worked for, we wouldn't need another medicine. It seems like the claims are that it will help everything. But really a lot more research needs to be done."Across town, that research is happening. UC San Diego's Center for Medical Cannabis Research has been studying the benefits of the drug since 2000."It's clear from our research and other people's work that there are some medicinal properties to compounds within marijuana," says CMCR Director Dr. Igor Grant.But, Grant cautions that it still may be too soon to have a degree program focused on medical marijuana."There are some things we know, but a lot of things we don't," he says.
