SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police Monday identified a shooting victim found in Sherman Heights following a crash.According to police, 25-year-old Jose Alberto Ortiz died after officers found him with gunshot wounds on October 22 near 27th Street and K Street.Police responded to the area after receiving reports of a crash. After responding, police say they found a dark sedan that collided with a parked vehicle.“Upon contacting the driver, they saw that he had sustained trauma that was not consistent with a traffic collision and suspected the male had been shot,” police said.The man was taken to the hospital where he later died. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue unveiled two new tools Wednesday that will help their dive team be faster and more efficient. "They move about 5 times faster than a diver can swim," Sergeant Rob Brown, with the SDFD Dive Team, said. The first hour during a search is crucial, he added. It could mean the difference between life or death. According to the website, DiveX, the scooters can go up to 600 feet underwater and can drive about 3 miles-per-hour. "It reduces our air consumption, allows us to stay under longer, as well as reduce diver fatigue, so we can get more reps in while we're conducting searches," Brown said.The team's had scooters since the 1990's but the new Piranhas are three generations ahead of what the team's been using, according to Brown.The need became apparent in August of 2018, when a 12-year-old girl fell off a boat in the San Vicente Reservoir. Her body was found days later.The team's request was answered by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation. They donated two scooters to the team, costing about ,000 each."We cannot say enough how grateful we are for the support of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Foundation in getting this equipment to us," Brown said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Raw emotion filled a San Diego courtroom Tuesday as the friends and family members of those killed and injured in a crash faced the drunk driver responsible at her sentencing. Thirteen people flew in from San Francisco to speak during victim impact statements. The most powerful words came from Giao Pham's life partner, John Lawhead. Pham was killed in the March 23rd crash."We were together for eleven years, until your actions that night took my partner, my world, my everything. You still don't have any remorse in your heart, you're a very shallow, person aren't you!?" At one point, the defendant, Alondra Marquez, interrupted, saying "You don't know me," Lawhead shouted back, " I don't care to know you, the only reason I know you is because you murdered my partner!" Marquez, 22, rear-ended a Lyft car on Highway 163 in Balboa Park, killing Pham and leaving his friend, Andy Lynn with a traumatic brain injury. Prosecutors said Marquez had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit and was driving more than 100 miles an hour. In a bizarre coincidence, Marquez and the two victims were at the same Hillcrest bar the night of the crash. While Pham and Lynn chose to hire a Lyft, Marquez chose to drive, even though several people offered to give her a ride. "You had five chances not to drive your car, you chose to drive, at your fastest speed of 109 miles an hour, but that wasn't fast enough or good enough for you," shouted Lawhead Pham and Lynn were visiting from San Francisco for a wedding.
