SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Superior Court jury is deliberating the murder case against a 44-year-old man who admits killing his wife.Armando Perez was grilled about his relationship with his estranged wife; 19-year-old Diana Gonzalez. She was murdered seven years ago in a men's restroom at San Diego City College. He'd stalked her that day, climbing a tree to peer into a second-floor classroom to see if she were there.  After class he confronted her.  "I remember just losing it and I guess I stabbed her." "You killed her." "Yes."Perez testified that he was jealous and that she told him he'd never see their baby daughter again.Time and again he admitted guilt but denied clear memories of strangling her then mutilating her body; finally carving an obscenity into her back. The prosecutor continued,  "After you stabbed Diana  in her neck, in her chest, on her face; you knew she was dead, didn't you?" "I don't know. It was me but I don't remember doing it."Perez appeared to be fighting back tears at one point, as he was repeatedly asked about specifics of the attack. "I just became a monster. I don't remember doing none of that."If convicted, Perez faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. 1255

When asked how political beliefs affect interactions, more than 60% said their political affiliation never affects their relationships with neighbors. And despite social media, 21% of respondents say they always communicate in-person with neighbors. About 30% said they do so often and 29% said sometimes. About 67% also said they have never avoided a neighbor on purpose."The results affirm the thousands of stories we’ve heard from people across the country who have built meaningful bonds with neighbors through our marketplace," the survey said. "Even in these divisive times, we’re hopeful about the health of America’s communities." 1254

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After announcing efforts to save Australia's koala population as hundreds of wildfires burn throughout the country, San Diego Zoo Global is dedicating more funds to the country's recovery. On Sunday, Jan. 12, dollars from admission to the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park will be matched and donated toward Australia's wildlife relief efforts.“San Diego Zoo Global is a nonprofit wildlife conservation organization, so the money we raise at our parks every day goes back into our mission to save species,” said San Diego Zoo Global CEO Paul Baribault. “Sunday’s effort is not just about fundraising, but also gives our audience an additional opportunity to be included in the effort to save Australian wildlife.”RELATED: Here's how you can help the victims of the Australian wildfiresSan Diego Zoo Global supports koala recovery amid devastating Australia wildfiresNorth County woman crochets pouches for injured Australian animalsThe fundraising comes days after the zoo revealed efforts of San Diego Zoo Global-backed researchers working to save koalas on the ground. The organization is also accepting donations to support the recovery of koalas, platypuses, and other species here."We have been working in this area for many years now, tracking koalas to learn about them and to assess their population numbers," said Kellie Leigh, researcher with San Diego Zoo Global. "The population of koalas in the Blue Mountains have high levels of genetic diversity. This makes this particular population very important for the survival of the species."It's estimated that more than 1 billion animals have died due to the wildfires. Across Australia, more than 120 wildfires have burned more than 15 million acres, killed at least 25 people and destroyed nearly 2,000 homes. 1806

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Amazon delivery driver was caught on video tossing a package onto a driveway like it was a newspaper, and the customer is not happy about it. “I order books. I’ve ordered Echos. I’ve ordered cameras on Amazon,” Del Cerro resident Yung Jun Kim said. He was worried someone might, one day, steal a package.“I ordered the ring camera to monitor the delivery,” Kim said “The first time the Amazon delivery happened on-camera, the driver drove into the driveway, didn’t even get out of his car, rolled down his window and threw my package onto the driveway."Kim found the package on the porch when he got home. What happened was also caught on video.“It was really great, because my mailman came by about 15 minutes later and he picked it up from the driveway and left it on my doorstep,” Kim said.Kim thinks the Amazon deliver driver threw his neighbor's package as well.“The video showed him pulling into her driveway for about 10 seconds and pulling back out. So, in that time, I don’t think he got out of a car and went into her courtyard and delivered it that way," Kim said. "He probably just threw it on the driveway."This time, Kim’s package was not fragile - but the driver didn't know that. Kim emailed Amazon and complained.“Customer service responded that same day, and they gave me a long apology and said they were going to look into it, which, I don’t know if they did," he said. "They also gave me a credit for my troubles."Kim says he hopes Amazon will get better drivers, because based on the video - they've got at least one with a negative attitude. "It takes very little effort to get out of the car to make a delivery onto a porch," Kim said. 10News reached out to Amazon. A spokesperson emailed this reply:“We expect every package to be handled with care. We've provided feedback directly to our delivery service provider on this matter and will continue to work with customers directly on matters related to their package delivery.” 2015
