(KGTV) — A recent study may cause pause at the dinner table this holiday season for millions of Americans.The study by the New England Journal of Medicine claims that nearly one in two adults (49 percent) will be obese by 2030, with obesity rates being at least 35 percent in every state and higher than 50 percent in 29 states. Nearly one in four adults are projected to have severe obesity by 2030. "Severe obesity" is projected to be the most common body-mass index (BMI) category among women, black adults, and low-income adults nationally, the study added.RELATED: Carlsbad company invents weight loss balloon"Our analysis indicates that the prevalence of adult obesity and severe obesity will continue to increase nationwide, with large disparities across states and demographic subgroups," the study said.Most previous obesity estimates have relied on surveys in which respondents often understate their weight. The new report used decades-long federal study to get a more accurate picture of the growing epidemic.The study says BMI data from more than 6.2 million adults collected from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Survey in 1993-1994 and 1999-2016 was used and measured with data from 57,000 adults who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. (KGTV) - A group of people sprang into action to catch a young girl who slipped off a ski lift in Big Bear.This past weekend, video shot by Instagram user explosive_comics_art showed a 5-year-old girl dangling from a chairlift during an outing at Bear Mountain Ski Resort.Moments later, as the girl was coming dangerously close to falling off, being held by only her hoodie by a ski instructor, according to ABC Los Angeles affiliate KABC, as she dangled above the ground.RELATED: San Diego native and wife caught in Squaw Valley avalancheA group of people below rush off and bring back a tarp to create a safety net for her to drop down to. (KGTV) — A man has died after falling into a river at Yosemite National Park on Christmas Day.Few details about the man's death were released Friday by the park. A park spokesman told the AP that a statement was not issued sooner and the investigation was taking longer than usual because of the government shutdown.The man reportedly suffered a head injury on Dec. 25 in the Silver Apron area, between Vernal and Nevada Falls, according to ABC affiliate KGO.RELATED: Government shutdown affecting air travel, national park safetyPark rangers arrived at the scene within an hour and removed the man from the water. Though they began first aid immediately, the man died from his injuries.The death is the third at a national park since the government shutdown began. (KGTV) — A new challenger is approaching the video game market, and it's aiming to become the Netflix of video games.Google Tuesday introduced a new video game streaming service called Stadia. The platform promises to deliver gamers instant access to games on TV, mobile devices, or desktop computers in resolutions up to 4K and 60 frames per second."When players use Stadia, they'll be able to access their games at all times, and on virtually any screen," the company said in a release. "And developers will have access to nearly unlimited resources to create the games they’ve always dreamed of."RELATED: Video games are now a legitimate high school sportIn a contrast to many video game consoles and PCs, Google says Stadia won't require any downloads, updates, patches or installs for its content.Stadia also comes with its own controller, supported through WiFi. Much like current generation video game consoles, the controller will have buttons to capture gameplay happening on a user's screen instantly. However, Google has also inserted a Google Assistant button for its AI-powered virtual assistant. The controller also includes a built-in microphone.According to Engadget, the service will actually allow viewers watching a Stadia streaming to jump in line to join their game as part of a "Crowd Play" feature.Google released a trailer for the upcoming platform, touting it as a new place for gamers to play together:The service will launch later in 2019 in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and in several European countries. Thus far, Stadia's main competition in the video market would appear to be the big three: Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.While Sony's "Playstation Now" currently offers hundreds of games on a subscription-based service, Microsoft intends to release its own subscription service called "Xbox Game Pass."
