No one likes to step in the "you-know-what" that dogs leave behind. Thanks to science, some Wisconsin apartment complexes are finding out exactly what dog, and what owner is responsible for those unattended piles. "It resolved issues immediately," said Ed Muisenga, the property manager at Prairie Grass Living in Pewaukee. He says they implemented the dog DNA policy from the beginning. It's built into their pet policy so when dogs move in, their cheeks are swabbed and their DNA stored in a registry through the company PooPrints Wisconsin.Then if Muisenga finds any waste that hasn't been picked up, they can send it to a lab to be tested, and eventually matched to one of the resident's dogs. "A lot of people thought it was a cool idea, I do too," he said. "It was kind of something I thought was funny in the beginning but it made a lot of sense." Diane and Frank Busateri don't live in a complex with this policy but nearby. They said most dog owners in their community are responsible. "It's kind of weird," said Diane. "I think it's unnecessary if people are willing to cooperate with each other," added Frank. If the DNA test proves an owner didn't pick up their dog's poop, the Prairie Grass Living complex imposes a fee that's between 0 and 0. But for the most part, the policy leads to more accountability, according to Anna Schloesser, the owner of PooPrints Wisconsin. She says they have 60 properties in the state using this service and most property owners have reported very little issue with waste left behind. "You have 'he said she said' and you can't figure out who did it," she said. "This is just an easy way to pinpoint where it came from and solve the problem."The company says some municipalities are even considering implementing a similar policy, so waste left behind in parks or other public places could also be tracked.  1942

NEW YORK (AP) — Martha Stewart's first Uber ride was not a good thing.Stewart ordered the "most expensive version" Monday outside Tiffany's flagship store in New York City. As Stewart explained on Instagram , she wanted to be picked up on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street.Stewart wrote the first car did not show up and the second parked "halfway down" the street where she "could not see the license plate." That car was pointed in the wrong direction, delaying her journey as the car snaked through midtown Manhattan traffic.But the worst part was the car "was a mess inside and out!!!!!!!!" She posted a picture that showed debris on the floor and two water bottles.Uber says it was disappointed to hear about Stewart's first experience and has reached out to her and her team. 794

NEW YORK -- Police took a man into custody after a 92-year-old woman was shoved and hit her head in an apparent random attack in Manhattan earlier this month.Rashid Brimmage was arrested Tuesday afternoon. The 31-year-old man faces a charge of assault, according to authorities.The incident happened on June 12 just before 3:30 p.m. along Third Avenue between 15th and 16th streets in Gramercy Park, police said.Surveillance video released by police showed the suspect shove the woman as she walked past him on the street. 530

NEW YORK (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department is asking to take over President Donald Trump’s defense in a defamation lawsuit from a writer who accused him of rape. Federal lawyers also asked a court Tuesday to allow a move that could put the American people on the hook for any money E. Jean Carroll might be awarded. The Justice Department lawyers argue that Trump was “acting within the scope of his office” when he denied Carroll’s allegations last year that he raped her in a New York luxury department store in the mid-1990s.She says his comments besmirched her character and harmed her career.The filing complicates, at least for the moment, Carroll’s efforts to get a DNA sample from the president as potential evidence and to have him answer questions under oath.It comes amid concerns that Attorney General William Barr has gone out of his way to intervene in other legal cases involving Trump or his allies. Barr tried to decrease the amount of prison time his office sought for Trump ally Roger Stone following a criminal trial where he was found guilty. (Stone’s sentence was later commuted by Trump.) A Black Lives Matter group had gathered waiting for a caravan of President Donald Trump supporters that never showed.Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles draped with flags and banners in support of Trump snarled traffic around the New York metropolitan area Sunday.According to The Associated Press, a large caravan of Trump supporters traveled through Rockland and Westchester counties and Queens, in some cases stopping traffic without further incident.In addition, videos posted online showed hundreds of vehicles at a standstill around noon in the northbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway near Lakewood, New Jersey.
