DENVER – What started out with a handful of bold activists seeking to spark a conversation about topless equality five years ago now brings over 1,000 people to the streets of downtown Denver. On Sunday, organizers of GoTopless Day expect to draw just as many people – if not more – to the 16th Street Mall, hoping to again “show that men and women can embrace topless equality while promoting respect and healthy boundaries.”Here’s everything you need to know about GoTopless Day 2018 in downtown Denver, taking place on Sunday, Aug. 26.It’s not just toplessness you’ll see this year Organizers said in the official Facebook event page that there will be live music as well as body painters. If you’re into getting body-painted, you’re asked to arrive early.Organizers did not release a lineup of the artists who will be performing live music at the event. There will also be a group photo opportunity of the attendees with the Colorado State Capitol building in the background, organizers said. Following the group shot, everyone will be asked to return to Skyline Park for more entertainment and for socializing.A worldwide eventGoTopless Day parades are taking place in over 25 cities across the world – from Seoul in South Korea to Valparaiso in Chile, according to the organization’s website. Nearly 20 events are scheduled to take place in the United States alone.“It is only logical that GoTopless Day protests (or celebrations depending on the legal status of your city) would fall on Women's Equality Day since the right to go topless for women is based on gender equality as their right to vote once was,” a press release of the event states.Colorado’s fight for female toplessness While female toplessness is not banned in Denver, cities like Fort Collins are still fighting to end the ban on toplessness after a three-judge panel had shown skepticism earlier this year about the difference between male and female breasts while listening to an appeals court hearing about women’s rights to go topless in that city, according to our partners at The Denver Post. The Denver march, which has been taking place each year around this time since it started back in 2013, saw ten times more people in 2016 than the year prior, according to organizers. In 2017, the event drew over 1,000 participants, according to organizers. 2373
Despite the CDC recently green lighting the resumption of cruises in US waters, Royal Caribbean announced Monday that most of its cruises will be suspended through the end of the year due to the coronavirus. The decision affects cruises domestically and internationally.Last week, Royal Caribbean applauded the CDC for allowing the cruise industry to resume operations.“While we are eager to welcome our guests back on board, we have a lot to do between now and then, and we’re committed to taking the time to do things right,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement. “This includes training our crew in new health and safety protocols and conducting a number of trial sailings to stress-test those protocols in real-world conditions.”Carnival previously announced that most of its US-based cruises are suspended through the end of the year. Before last week, the CDC had a no-sail order through October 31 on all cruises in US waters carrying 250 or more passengers. The CDC said it has identified at least 3,689 coronavirus-related illnesses, and 41 associated deaths, although the CDC cautions these figures are likely an underestimate. 1141
DENVER, Colo. — A toddler, child, and three adults died in a house fire in Denver where arson and homicide are suspected, according to initial reports from the Denver Fire Department and Denver Police Department.Around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, a Denver police officer called the fire department to report smoke along the 5300 block of N. Truckee Street, said Capt. Greg Pixely with the Denver Fire Department. This call was followed shortly afterward with several residents calling 911 about a fire in the neighborhood, which is near the southeast corner of Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.Pixley said police arrived to the home, located at 5312 Truckee Drive, around 2:55 a.m. and made a valiant effort to try to help the people still inside from the "very significant fire."He said the officer who attempted to rescue people from the home was pushed back due to the heat from the fire.Pixley said according to initial reports, a toddler, child and three adults died in the fire and all five were found on the lower part of the home. Three people who had been on the second story of the building were able to evacuate on their own. Pixley said firefighters reported that the individuals jumped from the second story. Their injuries are unknown.DPD Division Chief Joe Montoya said evidence indicates this was an arson, so police will investigate the case along with the fire department. Montoya said he's unable to discuss details about the evidence as of Wednesday morning.Montoya said he believes there was one person who was near the front of the home whom police were able to retrieve but it was too late.Pixley said firefighters worked to reduce the threat of the fire spreading to the two neighboring houses. Both were damaged. 1753

DEL MAR (CNS) - A 4-year-old gelding died today during training at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, the second horse lost during the 81st summer meet.Irreproachable suffered an unspecified injury this morning during a workout, according to Del Mar track spokesman Mac McBride. Irreproachable had raced twice, once at Santa Anita in May and once at Del Mar last month, McBride said. The other fatality involved Lovely Lilia, a 3-year-old filly that suffered a fatal injury during a morning workout on July 11, and was later euthanized.McBride said Del Mar has not lost any horses during racing for the past two summer meets. While there were no racing deaths, four training deaths were recorded last summer, while the subsequent fall meeting saw three racing deaths and two in training.McBride noted that in both 2018 and 2019, the Jockey Club's Equine Injury Database recognized Del Mar as the safest major track in the United States.``We hope to continue in that role this year,'' he said. Del Mar began its summer meet with no fans in the stands for the first time because of the coronavirus pandemic.Del Mar is holding races Friday through Sunday for all but the final week of the current meet, when racing will be held Friday through Monday with the meet concluding, as is traditional, on Labor Day. 1307
