EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A beloved visitor center and community "treasure" designed by a famed artist is routinely being turned into a trashed party pad.The small building, dubbed the Hubbell Kiosk, is located in the Crestridge Ecological Reserve. Designed by famed artist and architect James Hubbell, the partial build was destroyed by the Cedar Fire in 2003. The wood, clay and straw-filled project was rebuilt several years later. Then last month, Lands Manager Kyle Smith discovered a smashed skylight and a mess inside."Vomit, beer bottles, drug paraphernalia. It looked like a war zone went off," said Smith. The scene they left behind, including wrecked displays and broken chairs, has become a familiar one.Video surveillance has captured the party goers in five break-ins since early August. Some of the faces appear to be repeat revelers. The break-ins leads to thousands of dollars in repairs and extra security precautions. Endangered Habitats Conservancy, the non-profit that oversees the site, hopes someone will recognize the photos of the vandals. Smith has a message for the party-goers."You're not welcome here. Go party somewhere else," said Smith. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Alpine Sheriff's Station at 619-659-2600. 1272

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Christian Unified Schools of San Diego welcomed junior and high school students back to campus on Tuesday. The El Cajon-based school district brought elementary school students back to school last week, and district officials said now it's time for the other grades to join. The school's website lists many of the precautions they're taking, including multiple temperature checks. Students will get their temperature checked before they are dropped off at school, and then again before entering the building.Everyone on campus must wear a mask or face shield, and students must wash or sanitize their hands before they enter each classroom. The district says social distancing will be observed in all classrooms. Plexiglass barriers will be at each desk. All the classrooms are equipped with cleaning stations to be used between each class.Teachers will hold school religious services outside, and chapel will have limited seating. The district says each night staff will clean the entire facility. 1028

Dominic Raab has resigned as Brexit Secretary. In a statement he said he “cannot in good conscience support the terms proposed for our deal with the EU.”The pound has plunged on the back of Raab’s surprise resignation. Last night, after the United Kingdom and European Union agreed on the text of a Brexit withdrawal agreement, British Chancellor Phillip Hammond held a conference call with business leaders to convince them the draft agreement was the way forward. But Raab’s resignation has sent the business community back into uncertainty with the threat of a no deal scenario resurfacing. When addressing the House Thursday morning, British Prime Minister Theresa May said Wednesday's deal is not the final Brexit deal. May said that delivering Brexit involves difficult choices. She said she respected the views of those who resigned and thanked them.“There is no deal which delivers the Brexit the British people voted for without this insurance policy,” May said, referring to the Irish border backstop agreement that has infuriated some Brexiters. Two Cabinet ministers, two junior ministers and a parliamentary aide resigned on Thursday morning, just hours after May won approval from her Cabinet for the draft Brexit deal.   1296

EL CAJON, CALIF. (KGTV) - A pair of Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets from an El Cajon high school are turning heads for their achievements. It has been 19 years since a student from Grossmont High School was appointed to military service academy and the class of 2018 has two who received multiple appointments.John Flaherty and Nicholas Ghosn earned four appointments in total.Flaherty was nominated to West Point and the United States Merchant Marine Academy while Ghosn earned them to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.“I was on top of the world,” said Flaherty describing the moment he got the call he was being appointed, “it was everything I dreamed of since I was four-years-old.”Flaherty is attending West Point and Ghosn will head to Annapolis at the end of their summer.Nicholas Ghosn says it was bittersweet to get the nod from the U.S. Navy.“All I ever wanted was to go to that college and join the ranks of the officer corps in the Navy, but I knew I was going to be away from my family and friends and home,” said Ghosn, “it’s going to be a long time before I get to see them so I was kind of sad because I knew this was it.”The 17-year-olds grew up a mile and a half from each other in Spring Valley and played sports together.“It’s unprecedented,” said Gunnery Master Sgt. Mark Brosnan on the two earning nearly million dollars in scholarship money from the schools.“I’ve never had cadets from public school get two appointments in the same year,” added Brosnan. They are teenagers, but they know they are on the precipice of something great.“They don’t let you into the Naval Academy or West Point if you eat tide pods,” laughed Ghosn, “Thats on the application.”The two head to their respective schools in late June, but plan to see each other at the Army-Navy game in December.  1855
