Detective Scott Mandella is hiking near Burien, Washington. With him are two outreach workers. They’re looking for homeless people who, Mandella says, live in the woods.Right now, he’s looking for someone in particular: a man by the name of Ed Davis.“Have you made any efforts to reach out to the VA lately? What do you got going on man? You deserve a lot more than this,” Mandella said to Davis after locating him.Davis replied, "Well, I applied for the stimulus and all that."Davis says he’s lived in these woods for about three years. It's been three years with no heat, dealing with the elements, and fighting to survive.His story is a lot like others who end up homeless. He made some mistakes, and now he’s paying for them.“Years ago, I sold my house, out in the peninsula. I had good intentions of reinvesting it," he recalled. "When I have problems, I kind of get into a self-destructive mode, and I blew the money. Started doing drugs and everything. You know, I battled with it for quite some time and ended up out here,” said Davis.It may not look like much, but Davis has built a walkway down to where he sleeps, decorated his front entrance, and he even keeps fresh milk from spoiling by cooling it in the stream that runs by.He isn’t the only one who lives here. The outreach workers brought sandwiches and left some for the other people living in the camp, who were present at the time.But Mandella came for a different reason, and it was to let Davis know he has to leave his home in the woods. Mandella says the city parks department is going to evict him, and the others who live in the woods, within a few weeks because of complaints from walkers and people who live nearby.Davis likely only has a few weeks left before he’s forced to leave the place he has called home for the last three years. He hopes to get a hold of his stimulus check and use it to find a place to live.He said he's hoping to find a new place to live that offers some solitude. DETROIT - "She was loved," said Jessica Williams-Stough about her 36-year-old daughter, Kelly Stough, who was murdered Friday morning near East McNichols and Brush in Detroit. "She had a lot of people who loved her. She just wasn't nobody."Albert Weathers, a local pastor, has been charged with open murder and felony firearm (use of a firearm in commission of a felony). Weathers appeared in court Monday for arraignment where his bond was set at million.Kelly Stough was a 36-year-old transgender woman who was beloved in the LGBTQ community and aspired to be a designer and buyer in the world of fashion. Investigators won't reveal a motive or other details surrounding the murder, but a source said that after the shooting, Weathers fled the scene, clocked in at work at the Great Lakes Water Authority, and then called police an hour after the shooting to say that someone tried to rob him and that he shot someone. Weathers lives in Sterling Heights and a woman who answered the door at his home declined to comment. Someone who knows Weathers, but wished to remain anonymous, said that he's married with children and that he rents space in a local church for his small congregation.The case has been assigned to Special Prosecutor Jaimie Powell Horowitz of the Fair Michigan Justice Project (FMJP).The FMJP is a collaboration between the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and Fair Michigan Foundation that focuses on serious crimes against those in the LGBTQ community. 1626

DENVER, Colo. — On Wednesday, a Boulder man released videos of his July 29 arrest, and said he's ready to take action against the Denver Police Department for "savagely" beating him. He also claims an officer sexually assaulted him with a baton.Michael Jacobs, a self-described student activist, was arrested on July 29 during a "Stop the Sweep" homeless protest at Lincoln Park, across from the Colorado State Capitol.He says he was rattling a fence at Lincoln Park to get an officer's attention and says he was taken down by officers."I was grabbed from behind, it felt like it was from my neck, no warning, no 'you're under arrest,'" Jacobs said.It's important to stress that little is known about what led up to the takedown. Video shows people shaking a fence at the park and then the takedown.In the video, you see an officer run towards Jacobs and then several officers holding him down. You can briefly see an officer use his baton against Jacobs in the recording."One of the officers took his baton, lifted it in the air and forcefully shoved it into my a**," Jacobs said.A probable cause statement released by the Denver Police Department claims Jacobs was part of a group trying to push down a gate at Lincoln Park and adds that they managed to bring it down and get inside.But in the video, Jacobs is outside of the fence.The police report states Jacobs violently resisted arrest and even grabbed an officer's pepper ball gun. It's a claim Jacobs and his attorney, Dr. Matt Greife, dispute."That could not be further from the truth," Jacobs said."To say that he attempted to disarm a police officer of their pepper gun or pepper ball gun, that's nonsense, he was on the ground way too fast," Dr. Greife said.According to Dr. Greife, it's been challenging to obtain vital evidence they should be granted to prepare for a lawsuit and a civil claim they plan to file."We should know what the police reports say. We should know what the body cams tell us," Dr. Greife said.Denver police say they launched an internal investigation and added that it would be inappropriate to comment further.Medical records provided by Jacobs' attorney to KMGH show a doctor couldn't conclusively identify sexual abuse from the incident.Jacobs is facing a felony charge of attempting to disarm a police officer. DETROIT, Mich. - The number of passengers flying daily in the United State is growing but we’re only seeing a 40% total traffic when compared to a year ago.So airlines are still forced to operate on reduced schedules, some telling us it has created a flight booking headache.With travel down by about 70%, it's been a rough go for the airline industry, but passengers tell me there have been some upsides."Rescheduling the flight was a piece of cake," said one traveler."There's like no one in the middle seat, that’s super nice," said another traveler.Middle seats blocked, no change fees, and more lenient cancellations policies have all made flying much more appealing but traveling during the pandemic also mean dealing with a lot of changes."Saying it was frustrating is an understatement, it was utter chaos," said Kellie McDaniel.McDaniel of Monroe was thrilled about her November trip to the US Virgin Islands, that is until a change by the airline made it so that."Our connecting flights would not match up," said McDaniel.Now, the company did offer her a refund because they could not fix the issue."But then we were left with no airline," said McDaniel. DALLAS (AP) — Southwest Airlines says its workers must take pay cuts or face furloughs next year. Chairman and CEO Gary Kelly said Monday that unless the federal government gives airlines more money, Southwest will have to sharply cut spending to avoid losing billions of dollars every quarter until a coronavirus vaccine is widely available. Air travel is down nearly 70% from a year ago.“We would have to wipe out a large swath of salaries, wages and benefits to match the low traffic levels to have any hope of just breaking even,” Kelly said in a video to employees.Kelly says he won't take a base salary through 2021, and nonunion workers will face 10% pay cuts in January. Southwest, the fourth-biggest U.S. airline by revenue, recently said it is burning about million a day.
