SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom has pardoned 13 former prisoners, including three whose immigration status may benefit from the decision. He also commuted the sentences of 21 current inmates on Friday, including several who killed their victims and had been serving life-without-parole sentences. One of those pardoned was deported to Cambodia in 2011 but wants to rejoin her 16-year-old son in the United States. Two others are attempting to avoid deportation to Cambodia. Ny Nourn, 39, was convicted of second-degree murder in San Diego County in 2003. Newsom’s office said she was 18 when she helped lure her victim to his death at the direction of her 38-year-old abusive boyfriend, who shot him. The other was convicted of residential burglary in 1995. ROCHESTER, Indiana — The woman accused of crashing into four Indiana children as they crossed the street to get on a school bus pleaded not guilty Thursday morning, according to ABC 57 News in South Bend. The suspect, 24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd, had previously told police she saw the lights from the bus but didn't realize what it was until the kids were in front of her. She has been charged with three counts of reckless homicide and one count of disregarding the stop arms on a school bus causing injury. The crash happened Oct. 30, near the intersection of State Road 25 and CR 400 N in Fulton County.Police say Shepherd was driving a Toyota Tacoma on State Road 25 sometime after 7 a.m. when she allegedly "disregarded" the stop arm and lights on a stopped school bus in front of a mobile home park, striking four kids who were crossing the street to board the bus. Alivia Stahl, 9, and her twin brothers, Xzavier and Mason Ingle, 6, were all pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth child was also hit. Ride-hailing company Uber is offering people free and discounted rides if they need a lift to and from a COVID-19 vaccination appointment.In a press release, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company offers 10 million free or discounted rides to ensure people get vaccinated, especially those who face a barrier getting there.Khosrowshahi said they are partnering with the National Urban League, the Morehouse School of Medicine, and the National Action Network because the organizations are tied to communities of color that have been "disproportionately hurt by the pandemic."A date when this is to kickoff has not been announced. 637
