CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A fire in a drainage tunnel had Chula Vista firefighters donning protective masks Thursday.The fire broke out about 4:30 Thursday afternoon at Eastlake Parkway and Otay Lakes Road, near the Vons and Lowe's shopping centers. It was quickly knocked down."Witnesses reported smoke billowing from a storm drain and several people running from the area," Chula Vista Fire IAFF local 2180 officials posted on twitter. "Please give our firefighters room while they work."The Chula Vista Fire Department said juveniles started the fire in the drain and left the area. No one was hurt.Officials are searching for two teens who may be involved in the incident.Firefighters are battling a tunnel fire off of Otay Lakes Road. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – Chula Vista’s first commercial cannabis business is now ready to serve customers.According to a news release from the city, Grasshopper Delivery is the first of 12 cannabis businesses approved to operate in Chula Vista.Mayor Mary Casillas Salas said, “We welcome Grasshopper Delivery to the City of Chula Vista. Since voters approved commercial cannabis operations in 2018, we have been working to establish a quality program that attracts businesses like Grasshopper that are committed to running top-notch operations in our community.”Measure Q, an initiative approved by voters in 2018, allows for “commercial cannabis retail, delivery, testing, cultivation and manufacturing” in Chula Vista.Under Measure Q, the city said: “A total of 12 cannabis retail operations are allowed in the City of Chula Vista. Each council district may have a maximum of three retail locations to include two storefront locations or a combination of storefront and delivery operations, not to exceed three per council district.Grasshopper Delivery is Chula Vista owned and operated. Dedicated to sustainable green business practices, Grasshopper uses lows-emission vehicles for delivery and offers biodegradable packaged cannabis products at affordable prices.”Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, Grasshopper Delivery is operating by contactless delivery only.Grasshopper Delivery founding president Andres Camberos said, “We recognize the need for access to licensed legal cannabis in the City of Chula Vista and look forward to serving South County communities. Grasshopper Delivery is proud to be the first commercial cannabis operation to open in Chula Vista. We have hired local staff and are dedicated to providing funding to support cultural arts and other programs.”Grasshopper Delivery is planning to open a brick-and-mortar retail dispensary by spring 2021. 1889

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Two San Diegans entered holy matrimony with a splash Friday, saying "I do" atop an Aquatica San Diego water slide — or perhaps, "I dooooooooo."Hugh Rothman and Ilene Engel met in September 2016 on an online dating website. On a cruise in the Bahamas three months later, the couple realized they were meant for each other while standing on top of the ship's water slide.Bringing their love full circle, Rothman and Engel felt it only appropriate to tie the knot with a splash at Aquatica San Diego on the park's opening day of the season.RELATED: Aquatica San Diego going green as it enters sixth season in Chula VistaWith Rothman's daughter, Erica, officiating and Engel's son, Marc, taking video, the two exchanged vows from six stories up on the park's "Tassie's Twister" water slide. Their love made official, the two hopped into a raft and took the plunge into marital bliss to the bottom of the slide where they sealed their marriage with a kiss.Congratulations you two! 1057
