Blockbuster founder Wayne Huizenga has died. He was the only entrepreneur to create three different Fortune 500 companies during his career -- Blockbuster video, Waste Management and AutoNation.At one time, Huizenga, 80, had owned three sports teams where he lived in South Florida -- the Florida Marlins, the Florida Panthers and the Miami Dolphins. He was worth .8 billion, according to Forbes."He had a magic ability to create a business that was unmatched," said AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson, who confirmed the death. "Ideas were exploding in his head. He was bound and determined to out entrepreneur every other entrepreneur."Huizenga was awarded expansion franchises to bring both the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball to Miami in 1993. The following year he purchased the Miami Dolphins. While he owned the three sports teams at the same time, he didn't run all three major companies simultaneously. Instead he would sell one company and move onto the next idea he had."He started out on the back of a garbage truck in Fort Lauderdale. Then he bought a truck, and eventually he created Waste Management," said Jackson. "Then he rented a video and decided he could do better and next thing you know he was opening up Blockbuster store a day. Then he sold that to Viacom and decided there had to be a better way to buy a car and he created AutoNation."Blockbuster closed all of its stores in four years ago as consumers shifted to streaming and on demand video, but his other two companies remain dominant players in their respective fields. BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. -- The Benham family of northwest Georgia has made history by breaking down barriers, which helped open up new opportunities for the African-American community.This always bring back good memories for me up here. We used to call it the beach,” Robert Benham said of George Washington Carver Park in Bartow County, Georgia. “It was a place where people of color could feel free.”Free, however, during a time of segregation. Robert Benham’s father was the superintendent at George Washington Carver Park, Georgia’s first state park for African Americans.“It’s where my mom and dad were in business and they were people who really believed in the American dream,” Benham said.Benham said he learned valuable life lessons while water skiing the section of Lake Allatoona in Acworth, Georgia.“Being the smallest person, I was always atop of the pyramid,” he said. “The lesson I learned then was that sometimes you can do things perfectly and still fail at it.”Benham says those experiences helped him become the first African American to serve on the Supreme Court of Georgia.There was one incident, however, that impacted his life more than others: when he was denied using the front door at the park’s main office.“My dad stepped up and said, ‘this is my son, he can go in anybody’s front door and if you ever step in his way that will be the last step you make,’” Benham said.That decision would cost Benham’s father his job, but would prove to be a turning point in both of their lives.“He said, ‘there’s some things you have to do be a man,’” Benham said of his father. “’And if you can’t stand up for your children, what can you stand up for?’”While Benham describes the waters at George Washington Carver Park as almost spiritual. He says they also had a huge impact physically. During his the Benham family’s time there, this section of the lake was the only lake in northwest Georgia where African Americans were allowed to swim.“For some people this was the first time they had an opportunity to swim because they couldn’t swim in the various facilities in town,” Benham said.In an area where Confederate flags still fly today, George Washington Carver Park is now open to everyone while Benham is now retired as a judge.Looking back on the past, he believes the recreation area has helped with the future of race relations.“If they work on the things that they have in common than the things that separate them will be less significant,” Benham said. 2483

(AP) — Coast Guard crews have rescued three people and are searching for a man who went missing after a fishing boat capsized off Northern California.The Coast Guard said it received a distress call from the 54-foot vessel named Miss Hailee around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.When a helicopter crew reached an area about 30 miles north of Bodega Bay, they located two men and a woman in the water and hoisted them aboard the aircraft.RELATED: Coast Guard rescues man having stroke on cruise ship off San Diego CoastCrews were told a fourth man believed to be wearing a life jacket was missing. A massive community effort ensued, as neighbors spent endless hours searching for the boy.Wilson's mother, Crystal, initially contacted the Buckeye Police Department's non-emergency line in the early morning hours of July 18, saying her son had slipped out of their home.Similar incidents involving Jesse and his siblings were uncovered, including an incident in April 2016, when Buckeye police responded to the family's neighborhood after Jesse was found in a neighbor's yard.ABC15 also discovered 2011 reports from Avondale police, who were called to Crystal Wilson's home after receiving reports that her five children were being abused and underfed. Responding officers checked the children for injuries and determined they were fed and there was no evidence of abuse. Neighbors who lived near the Wilson's in Avondale told ABC15 the children were often seen knocking on doors asking for food.Police said Tuesday that their investigation into Jesse's death is continuing.
