SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former San Diego Kaiser doctor who was caught watching child porn at work will have his license reinstated.The news of the reinstatement became available this week, in documents provided by the California Medical Board.Former psychiatrist Mark Zweifach went in front of the board three weeks ago for a hearing on reinstating his license. A video of the hearing recently became available to the public.For the first time on-camera, Zweifach describes his own shocking acts that still haunt him.LONGFORM: Former San Diego Kaiser doctor caught watching child porn at work tries to get his license back“Eleven years ago, on three occasions, I briefly viewed child pornography at my workplace,” he said.It was more than a decade ago that the admitted sex addict turned in his white coat, but the District Attorney's office didn't have enough evidence to bring criminal charges.California Medical Board paperwork reveals that the alarming discovery was made at a Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in El Cajon. Some of the paperwork reads, "While at work, on his Kaiser-issued computer, [he] viewed inappropriate images, including child pornography."“I didn't collect it. I didn't produce it. I didn't distribute it, but I viewed it,” he told the board during his recent hearing.RELATED: Other Team 10 investigationsSince then, Zweifach’s become an active part of the San Diego community, according to his online resumes. A 2014 La Jolla Light website article about a local puppet guild shows a photo of Zweifach as a puppeteer operating a large, red puppet.As of late July, he was listed as a board member of the San Diego Puppetry Guild’s website. The day after 10News reached out, his name was removed.Documents outline his road to rehabilitation, like a 12-step “Sexaholics Anonymous” program and “regular therapy.”During his recent hearing, he describes having confronted whatever happened to him as a kid that apparently made him vulnerable to addiction.“I did have a history of being exposed to childhood sexual experiences that profoundly affected me,” he explains.Zweifach also told the board that he’s had two relapses with viewing adult pornography, but it stopped there.“I thank God that in the last eleven years, I’ve been entirely free of viewing the underage images that led to the loss of my license,” he adds.Zweifach has expressed a great deal of remorse for his actions.His license will officially be reinstated on September 14th.Zweifach will be on five years of probation which includes a number of stipulations, including not treating minors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver crashed his Mercedes-Benz through an underground parking garage gate, causing the gate to fall onto his car and leaving the vehicle -- and himself -- trapped at the entrance.The incident was reported at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex in the 4300 block of Menlo Avenue, according to San Diego police.With the large gate on top of the car, responding officers helped the driver out of his vehicle.ABC 10News learned the man was treated by medics at the scene but was also being evaluated for possible DUI. He did not appear to be seriously hurt.It's unclear why the driver was attempting to enter the parking garage since he reportedly told police he does not live in the apartment complex. 743

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 16-year-old was hospitalized Saturday night after being shot at a gas station in Skyline. Police say the shooting happened at an Arco station near South Meadow Brooke and Paradise Valley Road. According to police, the victim and his friends were walking through the parking lot when one of them was shot. Witnesses told police an argument broke out between the victim and three other teens when one of the three boys, who are all under the age of 18, shot the 16-year-old in the stomach before running away. The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive. 613

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of Hillcrest residents are fighting a proposed housing tower they say would take the sunshine out of their neighborhood and add traffic. Greystar Development wants to build a seven-story, 111 unit mixed-use housing complex near 7th and Robinson, not far from Whole Foods. The complex would replace the parking lot AT&T employees currently use for the company's building across the street. The lot borders a neighborhood filled with Spanish-style homes. The city gave Greystar a density bonus because it includes nine very low-income units. It also determined the developer would not have to do a costly and time-consuming environmental impact report."Housing, housing, housing is the only thing they're going to consider. And they're not going to consider the impact on the neighborhood that's there," said Tom Mullaney, who heads a group called Uptown United, which is appealing the project. Uptown United is fighting the city's determination that Greystar doesn't have to do an environmental impact report. That goes before the City Council April 23.Mullaney said Uptown United also wants the project scaled back. Jim Ivory, Greystar's senior director of development, said in a statement that company included community input in designing the project, which has the backing of the city's Uptown Community Planning group."We are proud of the design that has evolved in the last 18 months," he said. "Staff and community input has been incorporated along the way for the betterment of the project."Some in the neighborhood also welcome the project. Herbert Ross, who lives down the street, says the AT&T lot has become a public nuisance."The hangout that it's become for people who are homeless who don't clean up after themselves, I think anything would be an improvement to the area," he said. But Michael Bayless says the project would take away the direct sunlight he gets in his home office."I just came from Seattle to escape the lack of sun," he said. "It would be depressing."Greystar's development would also include retail at street level, and a 190 spot parking garage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 2-year-old boy who was reported missing by his stepfather in San Diego in 2002 suffered a fatal injury and died while in the sole custody and care of the stepfather, who disposed of the body, a prosecutor said Thursday, but a defense attorney said her client loved the child and didn't kill him.Tieray Jones, 39, told police that Jahi Turner disappeared from a park near the southern end of Balboa Park the afternoon of April 25, 2002.Deputy District Attorney Bill Mitchell told a jury that Jones married Jahi's mother -- Tameka Jones -- after Jahi was born and the couple moved to San Diego from Maryland in February 2002.The defendant was left to care for Jahi when Tameka Jones -- who was in the Navy -- went out to sea on April 22, 2002, the prosecutor said.Three days later, the defendant called 911 and said his step son disappeared in the park when the defendant walked to a vending machine."We will piece together what happened that week," Mitchell told thejury. "You're gonna know what happened to Jahi based on the evidence."Two days before he reported the child missing, Jones told his wife that Jahi had fallen off the bed and bumped his head, but it was "no big deal," the prosecutor said.Jones also complained that Jahi had wet the bed, according to Mitchell. Witnesses at the apartment complex where Jones lived said they saw the defendant carrying three large trash bags to a Dumpster just before the trash was to be picked up the day before the child disappeared, the prosecutor told the jury.One neighbor commented, "It didn't look like regular trash," Mitchell said. The prosecutor pointed to "glaring inconsistencies" in the defendant's statements to police about what happened.Mitchell said there was "no credible evidence" that Jahi was at the park that day. Despite a massive search, the child's body was never found.Jones was arrested in April 2016 in North Carolina and brought back to San Diego to face a murder charge.Deputy Public Defender Courtney Cutter told the jury that her client was a suspect in his stepson's disappearance almost immediately.Cutter said the defendant and Tameka Jones were used to just "getting by" and had very little when they moved to San Diego.The attorney said her client loved Jahi as if he were his own. "Tieray did not kill this child," Cutter told the jury."He was an imperfect father, yes, but not a reluctant one." At the end of the trial, there will be more questions than answers as to what happened to Jahi, Cutter said. Jones faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. 2570
