BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The Bank of China (BOC), China's largest foreign exchange bank, will transact the first cross-border yuan trade settlement deal Monday, a source with the bank said Sunday night.     The BOC Shanghai branch would receive the first cross-border yuan trade settlement deal from the BOC (Hong Kong) Monday, the unidentified source said.     The payee would be Shanghai Electric International Economic and Trading Co., Ltd. under Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. and the remitter would be the company's business partner in Hong Kong.     China last week issued detailed measures to regulate the pilot program for cross-border trade settled in yuan. The rules specified how to make transactions using Renminbi (RMB) to settle trade with Hong Kong and Macao and regional trade partners.     "The service has drawn much attention and many overseas enterprises had been asking us about it months ago. Why? Because cross-border yuan trade settlement could help enterprises avoid exchange rates risks, lock up financial costs and reckon enterprise anticipated profits," the source said.     "In comparison to convertible currency settlement, it could streamline links and reduce trade cost. It could help enterprises without foreign exchange revenues cut losses from converting foreign exchanges. It could reduce derivative fees in selecting RMB financial products," said the source.     The BOC Shanghai branch has reached tentative agreements with 11 overseas agent banks on yuan trade settlement deals. Now the agent banks in tentative agreements with the BOC mostly are large banks in Asia and they anticipate remarkable demand on yuan settlement, according to the sources.     "We are in talks with banks in the United States and Europe and get very positive feedbacks. Despite some obstacles in cross-border yuan settlement, the trend is good," the source said.

MOSCOW, May 13 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo said here Wednesday the strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Russia is currently showing a momentum all-round and rapid growth, as high-level contact remains frequent.    Wu said in recent years, China-Russia relations have been lifted to new stages as cooperation in all fields reached an unprecedentedly high level. He expressed the wish that the presidents of the two countries will have more meetings later this year, saying he expects President Hu to pay a state visit to Russia in June. BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- In light of an outbreak of swine flu in Mexico, China's Ministry of Health issued a notice Sunday about disease prevention and detection, warning citizens to be careful.     The notice defines the symptoms of the disease and how it can be transmitted to humans.     Although there is no vaccine yet, the disease is preventable, controllable and treatable, it said.     As of Monday morning, no cases of the illness had been reported in China.     The ministry said so far, there is no evidence that this flu could be spread through food.     It also warned those who travel abroad to be alert for any signs of infection.     Swine influenza A/H1N1 is a respiratory disease that infects pigs and does not normally infect humans. But sporadic cases do occur, usually for people who have had close contact with pigs.     It has killed more than 60 people out of about 1,000 suspected cases in Mexico.     China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) issued an emergency notice Saturday requiring people to report flu-like symptoms at the point of entry when returning from affected regions.     According to the Health Ministry, the ministry is working with the Ministry of Agriculture and GAQSIQ to monitor the disease.     The ministry has contacted scientists who have done viral sequencing on swine flu. It has also stepped up cooperation with the World Health Organization and the U.S. and Mexican governments to obtain updated epidemic information and prepare for a possible outbreak.     China should establish an effective disease prevention and control system it it entry-exit inspection and quarantine process, the ministry added.

URUMQI, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The violence-torn Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is plodding on the road to recovery amid vigilance one week after the violence in its capital city of Urumqi that left 184 people dead and 1,680 injured.     Police with riot gears were inspecting checkpoints, combing coaches for runaway suspects involved in the deadly violence.     Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, said in his tour to the autonomous region on Sunday that to maintain social stability is the top concern of the livelihood of the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang for the time being.     The regional government chairman Nur Berkri said in a televised speech Sunday afternoon that the number of people injured in violence on July 5 had risen to 1,680.     Altogether 216 of the 939 hospitalized are seriously injured and 74 injured fatally, he said.     An oil tank explosion occurred at a chemical plant in Urumqi Sunday morning. Police ruled out the possibility of intentional sabotage after on-the-spot investigation but said the reason of the explosion needs further investigation.     At the suburb of Aksu City, people who flocked into the Uygur bazaar, Toksun, as the local residents called it, said they had felt something different.     "There are much fewer people compared with what it was before the violence," said Tunxunjiang Tuohuniyazi, a local Uygur who were visiting the bazaar with his wife.     "On my way here, I saw a lot of policemen," he said. "But I understand it. The heavy security helps ensure our safety."     The bazaar, which boasts 3,000 stands, only saw a little more than 500 of them in business on Sunday.     Tuniyazi Yiming, a vender busy baking dumplings, said his turnover halved with number of the bazaar visitors on such a sharp decline.     The same bleak business picture could be seen in the border city of Kashgar in southern Xinjiang, where markets and bazaars reported only a few visitors.     Also hurt is the the region's tourism. Sources with the Urumqi Municipal government told Xinhua that because of the riot, 1,184 tour groups had cancelled their plans to visit the city as of Sunday.     They involved 74,218 travelers, including 10,731 tourists from overseas.     Railway authorities said Sunday that situation in the Urumqi's train terminal is normal.     The passenger volume was reported at 21,000 persons at the station on Sunday, 4,000 fewer than Saturday.     "There are no so-called 'waves of refugees' and ticket scalpers reported by some overseas journalists in the train terminal," said Chen Kai, vice chief of the South Train Station of Urumqi.     In Urumqi, thousands of youngsters have expressed their willingness to serve the city by signing up to be volunteers.     "Two days after the hotline was launched, we have received more than 1,600 calls," said Yu Yinglong, head of the Volunteer Association in Urumqi. "They volunteered to serve in hospitals and to give psychological help to those who were traumatized in the violence."     "The Koran teaches us that Muslims should be united. It teaches us to live in harmony with non-Muslims as well.
