China joined in February 2003.The ITER Agreement, signed in November 2006, came into effect last October and has an initial duration of 35 years, though it could be extended for an additional 10 years.Under the agreement, the EU will be responsible for half of the construction costs, while the other five parties excluding India, will contribute equally to cover the remaining expenses.Earlier reports said China would send 30 scientists to France during the construction phase. At the moment, more than a dozen scientists and managers are already working at Cadarache, and more will soon join them.Russia, France and Japan have all developed similar experimental fusion reactors.China became the first country to build a superconducting experimental Tokamak fusion device in September, after successfully completing a series of trials in Hefei, capital of Anhui Province. Despite this success, China still faces a shortage of talent in the field. BEIJING - The number of commercial bribe cases dealt with by Chinese courts rose to 4,406 in the first seven months, an increase of 8.2 percent over the same period of last year, according to the Supreme People's Court (SPC) on Saturday.Xiong Xuanguo, vice-president of the SPC, said the number of cases featuring corporate wrong-doings rose 37.3 percent and cases relating to individual employees of companies jumped by 52.1 percent.Of the 3,748 commercial bribery cases that have been closed this year, 94.1 percent involved civil servants, Xiong said.A total of 31,119 commercial bribery cases were dealt with in China in the past two years before August 2007, with 7.079 billion yuan (US2.51 million) involved, said Li Yufu, deputy director of the leading group on anti-commercial bribery under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

BEIJING - Only 7.6 percent of migrant workers in China are satisfied with their social status, according to a survey carried out by Shanghai's Fudan University.The survey, which questioned 30,000 migrant workers in major Chinese cities, found 68 percent of migrant workers believed urbanites did not fully accept them or accept them at all.The report also showed that working overtime was common for migrant workers - more than 80 percent worked more than eight hours a day and 18 percent worked more than 10 hours.Only 16.4 percent of migrant workers had more than five days a month off and 55 percent had less than two days off a month, it said.Working overtime with little holiday made migrant workers tired so accidents easily occur, it said.
