SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County public health officials said Friday that the region is dangerously close to being placed in the state's most restrictive reopening tier.The county's coronavirus case rate over the last 48 hours was alarming, according to Supervisor Nathan Fletcher."We've been living for most of the last month on the precipice of tiers," Fletcher said. "We now are concerned about the trends and we're concerned about the likelihood that we can tip back into purple."Fletcher says over the last six days, San Diego County's daily unadjusted case rates continue to increase.County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said since the start of this week, the county has seen its unadjusted case rate increase from 7.2 cases per 100,000 residents (7-day daily average from the previous week) on Sunday to 7.8 on Friday. The county's adjusted case rate has increased from 6.8 to 7.0 during the same time span.The last week reported for the county, San Diego reported an unadjusted case rate of 7.2 and an adjusted case rate of 6.8.Fletcher says the unadjusted case rate more closely represents the actual public spread of the coronavirus."The overwhelming majority of San Diegans are doing everything right. But we just have to go that extra mile in order to protect our status in our tier," Fletcher said.According to the state's reopening tier system, counties with a case rate of more than 7.0 and/or testing positivity percentage of 8% or greater for two consecutive weeks are placed in the purple tier, the state's most restrictive.Next Tuesday, Oct. 20, the state will report metrics for Oct. 4-10. Then on Oct. 27, the state will report results from Oct. 11-17.Officials say that's why they're sounding the alarm now, to encourage residents to double down on efforts around slowing the spread. Officials pointed to being more vigilant in facial coverings, avoiding indoor gatherings, and employers allowing more employees to telework.If San Diego County is pushed into the state's purple tier, several business sectors would need to conduct operations outdoors or adjust indoor capacity:Retail stores will have to lower to 25% capacity indoors,Restaurants must move to outdoor dining only,Shopping centers will move to 25% capacity with closed common areas and a closed food court,Personal care businesses must move to outdoor operations,Museums, zoos and aquariums will go to outdoors only,Places of worship and movie theaters will be held outdoors only,Gyms and fitness centers will also have to go outdoors only,"We're here to sound the alarm," said County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego has unveiled its first new trolley station in over a decade as city leaders gathered to celebrate Friday.The Courthouse Station is located at the south side of C Street between State and Union streets.The station will replace the American Plaza station as the new endpoint to Metropolitan Transit System’s Orange Line.The first new station since 2005 began to serve passengers Sunday. Aside from being located outside the city’s new 22-story courthouse, the station is located within close access to 44,500 jobs.Construction of the new station began in August. 598

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego is home to the nation’s largest concentration of military personnel. As part of our Making It in San Diego initiative, we want to make sure veterans know there is potentially money available to them. 10News anchor Kimberly Hunt spoke to professionals in the field, as well as two veterans who are currently applying for benefits.Linda Urbina, Director of Client Services for Golden Care explains the different benefit packages. Aide & Attendance, while difficult to qualify for, will go a long way in paying a veteran's assisted living costs. A veteran would have to be found to have 30 percent of their medical needs deemed 'service-related.' Anything less than 30 percent could be covered by a benefit called Home Health Aide Care. That provides assistance with activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, personal grooming, bathing, toileting/incontinence care, transferring, and transportation. A veteran would have to need assistance with at least two of these ADL's to qualify for this program.Urbina has gone into homes to find a veteran whose needs are not being met and has called adult protective services. Later she finds out they could have received help from the VA. She sees wives "bent low from the burden of care giving" and veterans who "feel guilty" for being a burden. He strongly suggests a veteran "go talk with a veteran services officer at the VA., ask questions, sit down with someone and see if you might qualify for help." He acknowledges the VA is over-burdened, but he tells his clients not to give up. He says persistence pays off. It disappoints Watt to see someone wait years or decades before coming in. Among his clients are World War II veterans who waited more than 70 years to ask for help.10News called the local office of the Veteran's Administration. They recommended people go to the VA website. He's waiting to get a response.Vietnam veteran George Simons has multiple health problems and after recently having a stroke he says he's "basically bed bound." His wife Cyndy has been caring for him for years. The medical bills have mounted, and take the majority of their money. Other things around the house have had to go unattended. After years of what he and his wife describe as a frustrating battle with the VA, Simon now receives Homemaker benefits which give him an in-home caretaker 12 hours a day, and a pension benefit of 20 percent of his Navy pay. They are still pursuing greater benefits.Watt tells both couples to "keep at it. and don't take no for an answer." 3834

The Starlink satellites are part of Elon Musk's mission to create a space-based broadband internet system.
