LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A tree trimming truck crashed into the side of a La Mesa church Wednesday, creating a gaping hole in the side of the building.A tree trimming crew was working on some trees on Pointe Ave., when their truck began rolling down the hill into the San Diego Taiwanese Presbyterian Church at 4426 Harbison Ave. around 1:30 p.m. according to witnesses."We all watched helplessly as there was nothing we could do," Rob Engquist, a witness, said. "Turns out they had gone out to reposition it, moved their wheel chalk out fo the way, don't know if the parking break was set or what happened, but the truck was going down the road on its own."La Mesa officials are investigating how the truck became dislodged.No one was inside the building at the time of the crash.The church's pastor told 10News the building hit by the truck is home to a weekly Bible study held Wednesday nights. 905
LAKELAND, Fla. — A Polk County judge denied bond Saturday to a Lakeland, Florida city commissioner facing a second-degree murder charge for the deadly shooting of a suspected shoplifter.Commissioner Michael Dunn will remain held without bond at the Polk County Jail, the judge ruled.Dunn was indicted by a grand jury Friday.The commissioner is accused of fatally shooting 50-year-old Christobal Lopez at Dunn's business, Vets Army & Navy Surplus store in Lakeland, Florida, October 3. Dunn suspected Lopez was trying to leave the store without paying for an item.Surveillance video of the shooting shows Dunn shoot 50-year-old Christobal Lopez, who was pronounced dead on scene.According to statements, Lopez entered the store with his father. As his father was making a purchase, Dunn reportedly witnessed Lopez trying to steal a hatchet. LA POSTA RESERVATION, Calif. (KGTV) - A local Native American tribe is considering its legal options after one of their sacred sites was vandalized. At least 5 rocks in an area used by the La Posta Band of Mission Indians’ ancestors were spray painted over the weekend.“A lot people don’t understand they’re on the reservation here,” said Victor Estrada, Vice Chairmen of the La Posta Band of Mission Indians. La Posta Reservation is about 50 miles east of San Diego and was blanketed by snow last week prompting visitors to make the trek out to the high elevation to see it. “You can come out here and play in our snow, but don’t destroy our stuff,” said Estrada, “don’t spray paint your name and your family and say 'hey you were here.' We understand you were here, we know you were here.” Estrada says they found out who may have vandalized it through social media and that the tribe may prosecute, but would be open to the offenders cleaning it up themselves. Those claiming responsibility wrote a statement to 10News saying in part: “We are truly sorry as we were not aware that we were on sacred or tribal lands. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials have raised the budget to .9 billion for the 65,000-seat Las Vegas Stadium being built for the NFL's relocated Raiders and UNLV football.The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the stadium authority board on Thursday approved million in construction additions. They include 20 more suites and a field-level club area to be paid for by personal and club seat sales that weren't part of the original budget.The stadium is due to open in 2020 just off the Las Vegas Strip. LAND O' LAKES, Fla. -- A State Alligator Trapper responded to a home in Land O' Lakes on Tuesday to remove an 8.5-foot-long alligator from underneath a truck. A resident in Sable Ridge called deputies who then called a trapper to come and remove the gator after the alligator was found in his driveway underneath his pickup truck.
