An amateur artist is raising thousands of dollars for charity with his simplistic portraits of pets.It started when Phil Heckels drew a picture of their family dog as a way to encourage his son to write a thank you note. An 87-year-old grandmother using a knife to cut dandelions in the woods near her rural Georgia home last week was taken down by a police Taser and arrested, according to a police report.Martha Al-Bishara was arrested for criminal trespass and obstruction of a police officer, according to the report. Chatsworth Police said Al-Bishara did not drop a steak knife despite several commands and a demonstration by officers. At one point, she walked toward officers with the knife, police said.Police had gone to a wooded area near a Boys and Girls Club last Friday after an employee called 911 to report that an elderly woman was walking around with a knife in the community, around 80 miles north of Atlanta."There's a lady walking on the bike trails, she has a knife and she won't leave," the caller told a dispatcher. As coronavirus cases spike around the country this fall, and cities impose new or stricter stay-at-home policies, Americans continue a trend this year of moving away from big cities and heading to affordable, smaller metro areas or suburbs.In the last few months, Santa Barbara, Louisville, Buffalo, Burlington, and El Paso were the top five cities with more people looking to move there compared to people looking to leave, according to data from Redfin, a home listing company.Redfin looked at data from the third quarter of 2020, and compared it to data from 2019 about how many people were looking into moving to or leaving certain metro areas.“Remote work has opened up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to buying a home,” said Redfin chief economist Daryl Fairweather in a release from the company. “Many residents of expensive areas like New York or Los Angeles couldn’t manage to afford rent and save for a home at the same time. So it’s no wonder that these folks are looking to buy homes in much more affordable places like Louisville and Little Rock.”Previous reports have shown similar trends in 2020, as the number of vacancies continue to climb in places like Manhattan, home prices are increasing and supply is dwindling in suburbs and smaller cities.An August report from HireaHelper.com, a website that helps with movers, found high-rent cities like San Francisco and New York saw more people leaving than moving in; both cities had 80 percent more people moving out of the area than moving in. An incident that began as an argument over masks led to an officer-involved shooting near Lansing, Michigan on Tuesday.A 43-year-old man from Grand Ledge was shot and killed by a police officer after a fight at a Quality Dairy store in Dimondale.Authorities say a 77-year-old man from Lansing who was wearing a mask and the 43-year-old man who wasn't wearing a mask got into an altercation.The unmasked man reportedly stabbed the masked man and fled the area. A deputy later spotted the vehicle and pulled him over.Once the man pulled over his car, police say he approached the deputy with two knives and a screwdriver.Authorities say the assailant continued to approach the deputy as she backed up, and she fired her weapon, fatally shooting the assailant.The deputy was not physically harmed and is on administrative leave.The case has been turned over to Michigan State Police.The 77-year-old man who was stabbed is reportedly stable.This story was originally published by WXYZ in Detroit. 1000

An armed robber at a south side Chicago hot dog stand accidentally shot himself in the genitals during his escape, according to the Chicago Tribune.According to the Tribune, 19-year-old Terrion Pouncy robbed the Original Maxwell Street Polish around 6 a.m. Tuesday.As he ran away, Pouncy tried to put the gun in his pants. It went off, according to the Tribune, shooting him in the genitals and the thigh. He eventually called 911 to report he had been shot.He was taken to the hospital and charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm. 570
