And once that changes so does the fear."It's not easy to do because you do have a whole set up of automatic beliefs that are causing you trouble," says one of the class instructors.That's why debunking students' biggest fears is so important."I have some very disappointing news for you all about turbulence," says commercial pilot Captain Mark Connell. "We don't care. It doesn't make much difference to us."As scary as it might feel, Captain Connell compares a plane hitting turbulence to a car hitting a pothole. He covers everything from turbulence and weather, to pilot training and preparedness."There's something helpful about that to think to yourself well he flies planes all the time and he's not scared so I probably shouldn't be scared either," says Mimi Kravetz.Kravetz has been scared of flying since she was 10."When there's turbulence on an airplane, my heart starts beating quicker. I feel really panicky. I can't focus. I can't sleep and I wanted to get out of that feeling," Kravetz says.Now she's ready to face her fear. "It'll be interesting on Monday to try and go in to see if I can replace my current set of thoughts with a set of new ones," Kravetz says.And get into the air with as much ease as the plane she's riding in.      2351

Ice pops shipped to multiple states were recalled Monday because of concerns they may be contaminated with listeria.According to the FDA, approximately 3,000 cases of Budget $aver Cherry Pineapple Monster Pops and Sugar Free Twin Pops, produced by the Ziegenfelder Company of Wheeling, W. Va., are part of a voluntary recall.The ice pops were distributed to grocery stores and distributors in the following states: Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.The product was delivered from April 5 through April 19, 2018.No illnesses or incidents involving the product have been reported.The frozen products were sold 12 to a package under the brand names Budget $aver Cherry Pineapple Monster Pops and Sugar Free Twin Pops.The Cherry Pineapple Monster Pops carry the UPC code 0-74534-84200-9, and have lot codes D09418A through D10018B.The Sugar Free Pops carry the UPC code 0-74534-75642-9, and have lot codes D09318A through D10018B. The voluntary recall was the result of a routine state inspection of the company’s Denver production facility which found listeria in samples collected by the inspector.The FDA said that Ziegenfelder Company has stopped the production and distribution at the plant as the state of Colorado and the company continue to investigate the problem.Consumers who have purchased the affected ice pops are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. It's a dire prediction from a study published in the journal Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology that could have life-altering consequences. Health expert Dr. Dahlia Wachs likened insulin to being the key to a door. In most people, it's a naturally occurring hormone the pancreas secretes when we eat sugar so that it can go from the bloodstream and into our cells.But it's a different matter for the millions of people whose bodies either don't make insulin or who have insulin resistance."Type 1 diabetics — they are very dependent on insulin," Wachs said. "They don't make insulin. They get very skinny and we have to give them insulin. There really isn't a lot of other treatments for these Type 1 diabetics.”A shortage of insulin in drug form poses major challenges. "So those with Type 2 diabetes, many of them can take pills, but if they are in poor control we have to give them insulin," Wachs said.Wachs said insulin is expensive to make. She says only three major pharmaceutical companies make it. And the demand isn't the highest here in the United States but other parts of the world, including Africa and Asia. However, the U.S. will have the third highest number of people living with diabetes by 2030.Diabetes is growing at an epidemic rate in the U.S. More than 12 percent of the adult population in Nevada is diabetic, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Every year, 10,000 people are diagnosed with diabetes and an estimated 75,000 have diabetes and don't know it. "So what can we do to prevent the shortage?
