SUZHOU, Jiangsu, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has announced that the special campaign to crackdown on prostitution has been effective, with cases of prostitution and obscene performances in entertainment venues in October dropping 18.4 percent on a month-on month basis.The campaign in the latter half of the year attached increased importance to the investigation and punishment of the organizers of prostitution.The campaign also targeted business operators and the "protective umbrellas" - sometimes local government officials - that allow prostitution to happen, according to a document released at a ministry work conference in Suzhou Saturday.More effort must be made to educate and rehabilitate women involved in the prostitution and obscene performance cases, the document said.According to the document, the MPS sent 27 groups of inspectors to 651 entertainment business venues in four municipalities and 20 provinces during the campaign. At some 381 of the venues, cases of prostitution or obscene performance were discovered.In July, the ministry sent 10 inspection groups to eight cities in Jilin, Shanghai, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan and Shaanxi, to raid 10 entertainment venues, resulting in the arrest of 370 suspects.In the following three months, the ministry and local police solved 54 major cases, the document said.

BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government will increase grain supplies to meet people's needs and stabilize market prices, the nation's grain authorities said Friday.The government will also sell a set amount of cooking vegetable oil and soybeans from its reserves beginning next week, in addition to the weekly policy-oriented sales of wheat, rice and corn that has already begun, the State Administration of Grain said in a statement posted on its website Friday.The authority will also send groups of staff to major grain production regions to inspect and guide purchases of autumn grain and regulate business practices, according to the statement.The move was in line with the government's efforts to protect farmers' interests and maintain moderate prices in the grain market, the statement said.China's State Council, or the Cabinet, said Wednesday that it would impose temporary price controls on important daily necessities and production materials when necessary, and urged local authorities to offer temporary subsidies to needy families.It also ordered efforts be implemented to ensure market supplies and strengthen market supervision.These steps were introduced after China's consumer price index (CPI), a major gauge of inflation, rose to a 25-month high of 4.4 percent in October. BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- China will launch a training project for all procuratorial personnel in the country to promote their work, according to an official of the Supreme People' s Procuratorate (SPP).Procuratorial agencies should have more staff with master' s or doctor' s degrees, and by 2020, procuratorial staff with bachelor' s degrees should make up at least 80 percent of the total members in the country' s less-developed west regions, Hu Zejun, executive deputy procurator-general of the SPP, said at a national conference on procuratorial personnel in Beijing on Monday.Further, there should be at least half of the staff in all grassroots-level procuratorates who are college graduates by 2020, Hu said.As of 2009, over 75 percent of the procuratorial staff in China had received bachelor' s degrees or above, an increase from some 53 percent in 2004, according to a statement released at the conference.Hu also called for more efforts to attract high-quality procuratorial personnel, promote the ability of the staff in grassroots procuratorial organs and provide more training for young procurators.
