(KGTV) — A local mother said her son and another teenager were attacked during a Black Lives Matter protest in Ramona.Heidi, who wanted to use only her first name, said her son Miguel had been peacefully protesting during the first week of June. Miguel recently graduated from high school. “I feel like our new generation is going to change something in the future,” he said.During the protest on June 5 in Ramona, he and his mother said men attacked him and his friend. She said the attack was unprovoked. Miguel said he moved his friend out of the way and that’s when the same man attacked him.“He hits me, I try to grab him so he won’t go away,” Miguel said. “Next thing… I get hit in the back. I was unconscious after that.”Heidi said the second hit came from a different man. She was at home when the Sheriff’s Department called her. “As a mother, it was very heartbreaking,” Heidi said.This is the second attack on protesters caught on camera that ABC 10News has covered recently. On June 7 in Imperial Beach, a man sucker-punched Marcus Boyd, a local businessman.Heidi said Miguel went to Pomerado Hospital with a concussion, sprained neck, and jaw. She is disappointed with where the Sheriff’s investigation stands. “Our officer was very, very nice. Are they doing all we think they should do? No.” Heidi said.Miguel plans to go to EMT school and eventually become a law enforcement officer. He said despite being attacked, he would still protest for causes he believes in.“I don't want my son to get hurt. but that being said, I'm not raising a man that's going to be afraid to voice his freedom of speech and liberty,” Heidi said.A Sheriff’s spokesperson told ABC 10News: “Deputies from the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation took a report about this incident. RAMONA (CNS) - Deputies and firefighters came to the rescue Friday when five family members were overcome by heat exhaustion during a sweltering afternoon hike on Cedar Creek Falls Trail in eastern San Diego County.The emergency on the popular footpath northeast of El Capitan Reservoir near Ramona began about 2 p.m., amid temperatures in the mid-90s, according to Cal Fire and the National Weather Service.U.S. Forest Service personnel hiked about a mile and a half down the steep sun-baked trail to reach the exhausted group, which included at least one child. They helped load them onto a pair of sheriff's helicopters that landed in open areas nearby, Cal Fire Capt, Thomas Shoots said.The air crews then dropped off the group -- visitors to the San Diego area from New Jersey -- at a putting green across the street from Cal Fire San Diego Ramona Fire Station 81 on San Vicente Road, where they were met by paramedics.After getting out of the sun and rehydrating, the rescued tourists were given clean bills of health and released, Shoots said.Cedar Creek Falls Trail, along with Three Sisters Falls Trail, can be dangerous to hikers in the summer months and have been closed during heat waves in recent years. 1224

President Donald Trump slammed his administration's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, during a conference call with his campaign staff, calling him a "disaster," according to Axios, The Associated Press and NBC News.During the call, Trump reportedly claimed, without evidence, that more than 800,000 people would have died of COVID-19 by now "if I listened to him." As of Monday, more than 200,000 have died of COVID-19.Trump also called Fauci a "nice guy," who had been in his position for "500 years." (KGTV) — The Fairbanks Ranch Country Club is an oasis along an otherwise remote stretch of road that winds away from Del Mar.But for a number of female employees working inside its clubhouse, it was something much darker.A new lawsuit filed by the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleges that around 2016, former manager Shant Karian sexually harassed a number of the workers, with financial consequences if they didn't play along.For one of the workers, the suit says Karian repeatedly made sexual advances, hitting her buttocks, putting his arm around her waste and choking her, and repeatedly pursuing her sexually.
