KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The latest effort to bring the NBA to Kansas City is gaining momentum.With the Toronto Raptors reportedly looking for a temporary home for the upcoming 2020-21 NBA season, Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas, congressional leaders on both sides of the state line, and even Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes have joined the push to bring the 2019 NBA champions to the City of Fountains.“I think it is something that Kansas City will shine at,” Lucas said.City officials and local congressional leaders sent a letter to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver offering the T-Mobile Center in downtown KCMO as a temporary home for the Raptors during the 2020-21 season, which is expected to begin in December."Kansas City is well-suited to host the Toronto Raptors for the 2020-2021 NBA season and our dynamic fans would be thrilled to adopt the team as our own," a letter signed by civic leaders.Lucas signed the letter along with U.S. Rep. Jake, a coonhound, wandered a long way from his Arizona home -- more than 2,000 miles to be exact."We are just really baffled by it," said Renae Metz with A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue in Pennsylvania.A good Samaritan found the 7-year-old dog near a YMCA in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh. When they scanned him for a microchip, they found one, and it came back registered to Phoenix."We thought maybe a truck driver possibly found Jake in the middle of the night and didn't know what to do with him and brought him home, but we don't know that that's a fact," Metz said.After finding the microchip, they made the phone call to Jake's owners."We have a 7-year-old coonhound here who is registered to you, are you missing your dog?" Metz asked the owners.It turns out they were, for the past year. Jake disappeared from their north Peoria home. Getting Jake back wouldn't be easy with a brand new baby, but Metz wasn't about to give up on getting the dog home."We have 20 different drivers, three overnights and a lot of stops for Jake," Metz laughed.Metz's sister is a transport coordinator for rescued animals. She used the power of Facebook to put out the call for help and arranged for his return.From Tennessee to Arkansas to Oklahoma to Texas and New Mexico, over the past three days, the volunteers took photos along the way. And then Monday afternoon, Jake was reunited with his owner in Holbrook. Click on the map below to follow the route the volunteers took to bring Jake home.Now Jake is back where he belongs and thanks to a lot of volunteers, pretty well-traveled.Metz said Companion Animal Hospital in Roaring Spring kept Jake from when he was found until he left for his trip home on Friday. (KGTV) - The Granite Lion Cellars in Jamul will break ground Wednesday on a new tasting room and wine cave, adding to their expanding vineyard and winery in the East County."We've been waiting for this for quite a while," says Tasting Room Manager Miriam Valdez. "I"m over the moon that it's finally happening."The multi-million dollar expansion will help Granite Lion deal with the increase of customers they've seen over the past year. Sommelier David Whited says they've gone from about ten visitors each week to 150.It's an excellent problem to have, and one that is spreading up and down Highway 94. "You can do it here, 20 minutes from downtown."The new wine cave and tasting room are the latest sign that the region is gaining in popularity. The first tasting room in the area opened in 2014. Since then, wines along the 94 have won several awards and are starting to pull customers away from Temecula, Ramona and even Baja."As word gets out, people are coming here," says Whited."You arrive, and it's quiet," says Valdez. "It's away from the busy hustle and bustle of the city. You can enjoy nature. You can find a place here to rejuvenate and relax."The San Diego County Vinters Association says there are 116 wineries across the county. A recent report showed they have a million economic impact every year.Whited says the geography in the East County allows vineyards to grow more flavorful grapes commonly found in Europe."There are two mountain ranges that filter in the marine climate into the valley here which sets us apart from anywhere else in San Diego," he says.County Supervisor Diane Jacob is expected to attend Wednesday's event. JAMUL (CNS) - A woman was killed in Jamul late Friday by a hit-and-run driver who officers were ultimately able to track down and arrest, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.Around 7:20 p.m. Friday, a 65-year-old woman was crossing Route 94 near Rancho Miguel Road when she was struck by a white Toyota Corolla heading west on the highway, CHP officers said.The Corolla driver at first pulled over and got out of the car, then hopped back in and fled the area, continuing west on Route 94, officials said.The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, according to the CHP.Neither the driver nor the victim were publicly named.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodInvestigators were looking for possible witnesses, and asked anyone who saw the crash to call the California Highway Patrol El Cajon office at (619) 401-2000. 887
