SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Carlsbad-based Callaway Golf Co. announced Wednesday it has agreed to buy driving-range chain Topgolf Entertainment Group in an all-stock transaction valued at billion.The merger combines Callaway, a global golf equipment company, with Topgolf, which made its name as a party-golf attraction for players at all skill levels. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Father Joe's Villages will kick off its first housing project of the year Tuesday at the future site of 82 affordable housing units.The project will convert an old E-Z 8 Motel at 1010 Outer Road into the housing complex for homeless residents. The project's kick-off ceremony will include a name dedication for its community funders and a 17-feet-tall banner unraveled from the building's top balcony, reading "Hope Lives Here."The city of San Diego plans to open a similar facility nearby in the Egger Highlands area by refitting a Super 8 motel that was the site of regular drug use and prostitution. The facility will include 82 beds and counseling for low-level drug offenders, many of whom are currently homeless. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Thursday for help in identifying a motorist involved in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian last week in a Chollas Creek-area neighborhood.The 48-year-old victim was standing next to a parked vehicle along the west curb line of the 5300 block of Chollas Parkway shortly before 1 a.m. Friday when a dark-colored car traveling to the south at high speed on the wrong side of the street hit him, according to San Diego police.Following the fatal impact, the motorist stopped momentarily, then drove off, Officer Robert Heims said.The victim, whose name has been withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.Surveillance cameras captured images of the vehicle -- a four-door sedan, possibly a Lexus or Toyota with a lowered suspension. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities today publicly identified a young man who was fatally shot last week during a fight near Horton Plaza.Patrol officers responding to reports of gunfire found Angel Maravilla, 22, mortally wounded at E Street and Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp District shortly after 9:30 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police.Medics took Maravilla to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.``The initial investigation revealed the victim and a companion were involved in an altercation with a third man,'' Lt. Matt Dobbs said. ``At some point during the altercation, the (third man) pulled a firearm and shot the victim.''The reason for the fight was unclear.
