It's been several hours since Hurricane Laura made landfall, but the storm is still delivering devastating gusts of wind to inland Louisiana.In it's 4 a.m. CT update, the National Hurricane Center downgraded Laura from a Category 4 hurricane to a Category 3 hurricane. But the storm is still delivering maximum sustained winds of 120 mph, and "unsurvivable storm surge."According to the NHC, Laura will continue to deliver hurricane-force winds to central and northern Louisiana throughout the day on Thursday. The storm will then move to the northeast, bringing heavy rain to the Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley regions on Friday and through the weekend.Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana at about 1 a.m. CT on Wednesday as an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm with 150 mph sustained winds. The Category 4 rating makes Laura is the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Louisiana in at least 60 years, according to the National Weather Service.The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Wednesday that "Laura is expected to produce catastrophic impacts from the coast to well inland; life-threatening storm surge, extreme winds, torrential rain, flooding, and tornadoes."On early Thursday morning, NOAA's Coastal Inundation Dashboard showed storm surge warnings all across Louisiana's shoreline. The dashboard also noted that readings from Calcasieu Pass — a tributary near Cameron that flows into the Gulf of Mexico — showed that surge was recorded at about 9 feet as of 1:30 a.m. CT."Take the next few hours and get your family to a safe location," Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said at a Wednesday afternoon press conference. INDIANAPOLIS -- A father died Sunday evening from the injuries he sustained while rescuing his 3-year-old daughter from a vehicle after it rolled into a pond on Indianapolis' north side.Divers and rescuers were called to a pond on Fluvia Terrace after 4:30 p.m. local time. Witnesses told police that the father had stopped to talk to someone and left his 3-year-old in the vehicle. The child hit the gear and shifted the car into reverse, rolling it into the pond. The father and another man ran after the vehicle and were able to pull the child out. She was awake and talking to rescuers, according to Rita Reith with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The child's father, who could not swim, was submerged in the water for roughly ten minutes. He was pulled out by rescuers and rushed to the hospital without a pulse. He later regained his pulse but was unable to survive his injuries and died just after 11:30 p.m.He was identified as Anthony Burgess Jr., 24. The bystander who helped rescue the child was also taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia.   1218

INDIANAPOLIS -- Members of a neighborhood on Indianapolis' northwest side are asking police to do something about a woman caught on camera attacking neighbors with a yard sign and threatening their lives.The woman was seen on video pulling signs out of Miguel Rios and Luvia Roman's yard and saying she'll kill them, all over a property line dispute on Twin Creeks Drive, just north of Northwestway Park.Neighbors say the woman has a history of harassing minority neighbors. Corey Banks, a neighbor from across the street, said he's been called the N-word multiple times by her. Rios and Roman bought the house next door to the woman about a year and a half ago. They say the woman has called the health department, narcotics and child protective services in an effort to get them to move."I'm scared for my life," Rios said.
