SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A five-week-old sea otter found stranded by strong currents in Alaska is now being cared for by SeaWorld San Diego.SeaWorld announced the sea otter pup, Cinder, was found orphaned near Homer, Alaska, on Aug. 18 before being brought to their care last Saturday. Cinder was underweight and dehydrated when she was taken to the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seaward, Alaska. But the young otter pup learned quickly to feed from a bottle and stabilized before making the trip to San Diego.Since the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has deemed her non-releasable, SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Team and veterinarians have provided constant care in the park's sea otter nursery.SeaWorld says Cinder's condition is good and she's adjusting well to her new home. Staff are also acting as a sort of surrogate mother, helping Cinder learn to swim and groom herself. For the time being, the sea otter will remain in the park's nursery. But soon, she'll be introduced to the park's four other female sea otters — which are also rescued orphaned pups. The park hopes to be able to introduce Cinder to park visitors in the near future. 1133

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A great-grandmother is pleading for the return of her late husband's ashes, after the theft of a truck belonging to the moving company she hired.A frustrated Dee Randolph spoke to 10News from her new home in Tennessee. On a day in May, Mission Transportation - the company she hired for the move - loaded up her belongings at her home in La Mesa. That same night, or early the next morning, the truck was stolen from near a parking lot in the 6400 block of Federal Boulevard in Lemon Grove. "I was just in shock. How do you react? I was stunned," said Randolph.Weeks later, the truck was found abandoned outside a vacant building near Escondido.Three-quarters of her possessions were gone, including furniture, clothing and dozens of pieces of jewelry. Also missing was an urn holding the ashes of her husband David, who passed away from a stroke in 2014."I used to carry him with me for about a year. When I was in the kayak, I brought him with me ... made me feel like he was still with me ... Now I don't feel like he's here. I feel like he's gone," said Randolph. Also stolen was a wooden sculpture and several other art pieces crafted by her husband, a millennial print of a Rembrandt etching valued at several thousand dollars, and a detailing of her lineage inside a bible that's been in her family for several centuries."I was passing it onto my grandsons to continue that history," said Randolph. That history is lost for now, along with a piece of Randolph's heart. "You don't think when you hire a moving company that you will lose everything," said Randolph. The monetary loss will be covered by the moving company and her own homeowner's insurance. Randolph hired a private investigator, who obtained surveillance video showing a white van pulling up to the moving truck. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1883

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A computer virus prevented most of the San Diego Union-Tribune's readership from waking up with a paper Saturday morning. The U-T's Editor in Chief Jeff Light said in a statement online the virus affected the production of the U-T and the LA Times, and the Southern California editions of the Wall Street Journal, and New York Times through Los Angeles' Olympic Printing Plant. Light wrote that systems still used through the paper's former owner, Tribune Publishing, had been compromised by the virus Thursday night and spread to critical systems by Friday. The virus also affected the paper's digital replica online. The U-T said it plans to deliver the Saturday edition with Sunday's edition to print subscribers."I apologize to our customers for this inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and support. We are doing everything we can to restore full service and to continue to make our journalism available to you both in print and digitally," Light's statement read.10News received multiple calls from viewers who did not receive the Saturday edition of the paper. It wasn't immediately clear if Sunday deliveries would be affected as well, though Light said updates would be provided as more information becomes available. 1256
