Florida is known by many for its beaches. But in politics, it sometimes is known for being the butt of a joke. With many counties in Florida reporting record number of vote-by-mail requests, some are wondering will more controversy emerge in 2020? Tuesday's primary may provide clues. TUESDAY'S PRIMARYWhile Tuesday's primary does not involve presidential politics in Florida, a number of races impacting the state legislature, Congress and local governments are taking place. HISTORY OF ISSUESFlorida's issues with elections goes all the way back to 1876. The presidential election was still undecided with Florida being unsure how to award its 4 Electoral College votes. Florida wasn't alone. South Carolina and Louisiana were also unsure. As a result, Congress had to step in and resolve the issue with Rutherford B. Hayes eventually becoming President. Most Americans know Florida because of the issues in 2000. With another presidential election hanging in the balance, Al Gore and George W. Bush battled for votes during a 36-day recount. Palm Beach County's butterfly ballot, with confusing placement of names for some voters, likely resulted in 2,800 votes for Pat Buchanan instead of Gore. "Hanging Chads" in the state became a household phrase nationwide to describe ballots with paper fragments still hanging from them. Ballots that year were hole punch style for many voters. Like in 2000 and 2016, Florida has long been an important state for nominees to win. It has helped choose the winning presidential candidate every election since 1992.RECENT ISSUESIssues in Florida's Elections have continued in recent years. In Broward County, nearly 1,000 uncounted ballots were found in a warehouse in 2012. In 2018, 22 ballots were counted that were supposed to be rejected. Ford Motor Company has launched a new program that will allow customers who buy a new car to return the vehicle if they lose their job within a year of the purchase."We feel like right now, the economy is at the stage of recovery where people want things to be back to normal, they want to buy, but they're still a little nervous about what the future holds," Mark LaNeve, Ford's vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service said. "We want them to know we understand that, and we're here to support them in their buying decisions."Under the "Ford Promise" program, customers who lease or purchase a vehicle with Ford Credit financing and then lose their job within a year can return the vehicle.Ford Credit will value the vehicle using the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) average trade-in value, reduce the customer's outstanding balance by that amount and waive up to an additional ,000. The customer is responsible for covering any remaining balance.In addition, the customer is responsible for outstanding late or deferred payments and any vehicle damage. Once those conditions are met, the account is reported as closed and paid.Enrollment for the Ford Promise program is open through Sept. 30.According to Matt VanDyke, Ford's director of U.S. marketing, the ad campaign focuses on supporting consumers eager to move forward."Customers are realizing it might take a while for things to completely feel normal again, if in fact, they ever do," VanDyke said.Ford Promise covers 2019, 2020 and 2021 purchased or leased new, used and certified pre-owned vehicles financed through Ford Credit. FORT MYERS, Fla. —A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to set a Planned Parenthood on fire in Fort Myers, Florida.The Lee County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that Everett Little was taken into custody after a search warrant was served at his home.The 20-year-old man is being charged with arson, criminal mischief, and using an incendiary device.Officers believe Little committed arson at the facility on Commerce Park Drive on Oct. 10.The act was caught on surveillance cameras and law enforcement distributed the photos of the suspect, asking the public for help locating him.In the end, authorities said they identified Little thanks to the community’s help."That act was caught on camera, and through Crime Stoppers, he's behind bars," said Sheriff Carmine Marceno in a statement on Facebook. Ford is recalling about 350,000 trucks for a problem that could cause them to roll even after the driver shifts into park.The automaker says the issue affects 2018 Ford F-150 and Ford Expedition vehicles with 10-speed automatic transmissions, as well as Ford F-650 and F-750 vehicles with 6-speed automatic transmissions.Ford says a piece of equipment on the affected vehicles can become dislodged over time, which means the car won't be in the gear that it looks like it's in, such as park.This means that if the driver shifts the car into park, the car might not actually be in park — and there would not be a warning message to indicate that. If he or she doesn't use a parking brake, Ford says the vehicle could roll.Ford says it's aware of one reported accident and injury.The company is also recalling more than 100 other vehicles for a missing transmission roll pin. If the pin is missing, the company says that the transmission on those vehicles might eventually lose the ability to park, even if the driver shifts the car into that gear.Ford says that problem affects around 160 of the 2017 and 2018 Ford F-150s, 2018 Ford Expeditions, 2018 Lincoln Navigators and 2018 Ford Mustangs with 10R80 transmissions.  1231
