SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A shark advisory is being issued Tuesday after witnesses reported seeing a five-foot-long shark near Black's Beach. According to Mónica Mu?oz with San Diego Fire-Rescue, the advisory is in place from the Mushroom House north to Bathtub Rock, also known as Flat Rock. “Some witnesses reported seeing a shark of about five feet in length which does not reach the threshold of a significant threat. However, the number of witnesses and the feeding behavior observed influenced the lifeguards’ decision to issue the advisory,” Mu?oz said. Just after 12:30 p.m., a group of 25 surfers got out of the water at Black's Beach after reportedly seeing a shark eating a sea lion. Another group of people reported similar information to a lifeguard. In the same area, Mu?oz says lifeguards witnessed a large sea lion eating a fish. The department says there were either two separate sightings in the area, or witnesses all saw a sea lion feeding on a fish, but mistook it for a shark. “We are acting out of an abundance of caution,” Mu?oz added. Lifeguards are conducting active patrols in the area to let people know what witnesses saw. Mu?oz says lifeguards are advising against water activity; however, the water is not closed to people who choose to enter. Signs will also be posted in the area. 1316

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — After a nationwide vote, San Diego Zoo's newest river hippo calf has been named.The zoo's 20-day-old hippo will be named Amahle, meaning "beautiful one" in Zulu. The name was revealed Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America." “The fact that so many people were part of this process has been amazing. Amahle was a name suggested multiple times and it couldn’t be a better fit. The father, Otis, has been kept separate from the two since Funani is very protective of the calf.“My hope is that those who participated in this naming event will feel a connection with Amahle and are inspired to learn more about river hippos and ways they can help hippos in their native range in Africa," Chapman said.The hippopotamus is currently listed as "vulnerable" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. The primary threat the animals face are illegal and unregulated hunting for meat and ivory from their teeth, as well as habitat loss, according to the zoo.The last calf born at the zoo was a male named Tony in 2017. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Airbnb host says his condo was damaged by a guest who used a fake name to book the home.The host, who did not want to be identified because of the crimes committed, estimated nearly ,000 in damaged furniture and stolen belongings.He said the guest, who had recently created their profile and had no prior reviews, held a party in the unit.Damage included chipped furniture, rips on the couch, stains on the carpet and what appeared to be urine on the bed.The host also said that some of his property was stolen, including a watch and some of his medications. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A total of 444 total confirmed and probable cases have been identified among San Diego State University students, the school said Wednesday.According to SDSU, 440 students have tested positive for COVID-19 with four students who have probable cases.San Diego County health officials added that one of the students was hospitalized. Their condition is unclear at this time.
