SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Wildlife officials say at least three new wolf pups have joined the only known pack in California.KQED reports that trail cameras set up by the state Department of Fish and Wildlife in northeast California recorded the pups and two or three adult wolves in June.Amaroq Weiss advocates for West Coast wolves with the Center for Biological Diversity. He says that the return of wolves to the state is an important development for conservation efforts.Wolves are protected under California's Endangered Species Act even as the federal Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed to delist grey wolves as an endangered species.In 2011, a grey wolf with a radio collar named OR-7 crossed the California border from Oregon and became the first wolf in the state since 1924. 791
Scooter company Lime is recalling one of its models from every city after realizing it could break apart while in use. The company says the model occasionally breaks "when subject to repeated abuse."The scooters were manufactured by a Chinese company called Okai, according to a Washington Post interview with Lime representatives. The Washington Post said it could not get in touch with Okai for comment.Lime plans to decommission any Okai scooters in its fleets.Those who experience the breaking scooter are typically leaving them where they break, and it has been difficult for the company to tally how many have broken, the Washington Post reports.This recall follows one issued a couple months ago stating some Lime scooters could catch fire. That recall of 2,000 scooters said some have batteries that smoldered and sometimes caught fire.The recall had a small impact in Lime's west coast markets. 911

(KGTV) — Four Congressmen, including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Scott Peters, Juan Vargas, and Mike Levin, participated in an all-access tour of the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry Friday afternoon. Upon finishing the tour, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland said sternly, “There is no crisis at the border. There is no justification for an emergency declaration at the border.” This was a direct contradiction to President Trump's reasoning to build a southern border wall. It has been almost one month since the Department of Homeland Security began implementing the new Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP). The policy forces migrants from Central and South America entering the United States without papers, or those claiming asylum, to in Mexico for the duration of their immigration proceedings. According to the Mexican Citizen Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice, Tijuana has the fifth highest murder rate in the world. Because of that, Representative Juan Vargas (CA-51-D) strongly rejected MPP.“To be sent back to a place like Tijuana, where they don’t have family, friends, where they don’t have the social connections to be helped and to be safe, I don’t think we should be doing it. I think it is the wrong thing to do. I don’t think it’s our American values," said Vargas.Previous to the new MPP, migrants were released into the United States after their initial process, under the assumption they would return to US Immigration Court at a later time to receive their final status. But Homeland Security said that too many migrants would skip court, and disappear into the US as fugitives. This afternoon, Majority Leader Hoyer used the President’s coined slogan to refute the claim. “That’s fake news. 97% of people show up. That’s a better percentage than the people who show up who are on parole in the United States of America for crimes,” Representative Hoyer said. After touring the facility, the Democrats agreed, solving the immigration issue is not as simple as building a physical wall. Overcrowding the ports with seemingly endless asylum seekers is not the answer either. (KGTV and AP) — A former Camp Pendleton Marine was found guilty Wednesday of the murders of five women in Southern California more than two decades ago, including a San Diego woman in 1988.Orange County jurors convicted Andrew Urdiales of five counts of murder with enhancements for attacking a volunteer usher after a college piano concert and picking up four prostitutes, driving them to remote or deserted areas, having sex with them and killing them.The verdict raises to eight the number of women killed by the 53-year-old former Marine.Urdiales was previously convicted of killing three women in Illinois in 2002 and 2004. He was given a death sentence that was commuted to life without parole after Illinois barred the death penalty.He was extradited to California in 2011 to stand trial in the murders of five women in Riverside, Orange and San Diego counties between 1986 and 1995.
