OCEANSIDE (CNS) - A pedestrian was hit and killed while crossing an Oceanside highway late Saturday night, police said.The crash was reported to police shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of state Route 76 and Douglas Drive, according to Oceanside police Sgt. Rick Davis.Officers found a man lying unresponsive in eastbound lanes of Route 76.Davis said according to witness statements and evidence at the crash scene, investigators believe the pedestrian was crossing Route 76 from north to south against a red light, and was hit by a car heading east on the highway with a green light.The driver, who was not injured, immediately stopped and waited for police to arrive, Davis said. Police did not suspect alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.The name of the victim was not immediately released. 826

OCILLA, Ga. — A nurse at an immigration detention center in Georgia says authorities performed questionable hysterectomies, refused to test detainees for COVID-19 and shredded medical records.Advocacy group Project South has filed a complaint with the Homeland Security Department's internal watchdog that relies heavily on the nurse's words.That nurse, Dawn Wooten, worked at the Irwin County Detention Center in southern Georgia. In addition to holding detainees for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, it also serves those arrested by the U.S. Marshals and the Irwin County Sheriff's Department.In her complaint, Wooten called a gynecologist who works outside the facility, "the uterus collector." OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — A vehicle slammed into a power pole in Oceanside and flipped over early Monday, leaving locals without power and forcing some evacuations.The driver careened into the power pole in the 220 block of N. El Camino Real at about 3:30 a.m. The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.The power pole remained upright but was leaning over a nearby mobile home park, threatening some homes. Those homes have been evacuated and power to most of the park has been shut off.SDG&E crews were out to assess the damage Monday. The outage affected at least 180 people.
