BOCA RATON, Fla. — New developments in the investigation into a Boca Raton pet store where authorities say a dead puppy and several sick puppies were found late last year.The owner of Poochie Couture was arrested on Tuesday and is facing multiple animal cruelty charges.Marc Rosenbluth, 37, has since bonded out of jail.Last November, dozens of puppies were removed from Poochie Couture by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, and the pet store was shut down.Rosenbluth surrendered some of the dogs after Boca Raton Police and Animal Care and Control said they found a dead 3-month-old puppy, along with several other sick animals."Had we not gotten there with Boca P.D., most likely the death toll would have much higher," said Dianne Sauve, the director of Palm Beach County Animal Care and ControlSauve said closing the pet store is a victory.Records show that of the 58 dogs inside the shop, investigators found the dead puppy and six french bulldogs that were sick with multiple problems. Two of them needed intensive care.Rosenbluth's arrest report said Poochie Couture lacked prevention of injury and did not assist with ongoing veterinary care."It is a shame some animals had to die in a result of this," said Kelly Evans, who called police in November, claiming Rosenbluth and his wife were not taking care of their puppies. "I am glad he is arrested now and there is some justice for the animals."Sauve said ACC likes to tell people to always adopt and don't shop. Best Buy informed its employees on Wednesday of plans to close all 250 of its mobile standalone stores in the United States by the end of May, a company spokesperson confirmed. The stores are predominately located within malls and are much smaller than Best Buy's big box stores. The mobile standalone shops are mostly used for the sale of cellphones and accessories. These locations do not sell some of Best Buy's bigger ticket items such as televisions, computers and appliances. The standalone stores are only responsible for 1 percent of Best Buy's overall revenue.Although thousands of employees will be affected by Wednesday's announcement, the company said the goal is to transfer employees currently working in standalone stores into Best Buy's big box locations. Best Buy said that 85 percent of its standalone stores are within 3 miles of a big box store. "Employees will have three months to work with internal recruiters, and field and store leaders across the country are rallying to help transition employees to big box stores and open in-home advisor roles," Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly wrote in a letter to employees, and shared with Scripps. (AP) — A Georgia judge has denied bond for the white father and son charged with murder in the February slaying of Ahmaud Arbery.Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley said Friday that he's concerned Gregory McMichael and his adult son, Travis McMichael, took the law into their own hands and endangered neighbors when they pursued the 25-year-old Black man with guns and shot him in a residential street in February.Defense attorneys say the McMichaels had reason to suspect Arbery was a burglar and Travis McMichael was defending himself when he shot Arbery in the port city of Brunswick.During a hearing Thursday, prosecutors said Travis McMichael had previously used racial slurs in text messages and on social media.Prosecutors asked the suspect’s friend, Zachary Langford, on the witness stand about a text in which McMichael used a slur for Black people. At first, he said he didn’t recall receiving the message, but after reviewing a transcript of the exchange, he said “He was referring to a raccoon, I believe,” The Associated Press reports.Attorneys for the McMichaels have died any racist motives in the shooting.The McMichaels were not arrested until May, when the Georgia Bureau of Investigation stepped and charged them with murder and aggravated assault.There was mounting public pressure for justice in the case after video was released of the deadly incident.
