URUMQI, June 28 (Xinhua) -- China sent two chartered aircraft carrying 26 tonnes of new relief materials to Kyrgyzstan early Monday to help refugees who suffered shortages of supplies after violent ethnic clashes this month.The two China Southern Airlines Boeing 757 cargo aircraft brought the materials to the southern Kyrgyzstan city of Osh from Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a spokesman with the carrier's Xinjiang Branch said.The aid materials worth 3 million yuan (440,000 U.S. dollars) include rice, oil, biscuits, black tea, milk powder, blankets, clothes, stationary and sanitary materials, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang in a press release."China hopes the aid will help Kyrgyz authorities to resettle the refugees," Qin said.China Southern Airlines, one of the country's leading carriers, has been heavily involved in the evacuation of Chinese nationals and transportation of relief supplies after clashes broke out between Kyrgyz and ethnic Uzbeks in Osh in mid-June.The clashes later spread to the region of Jalalabad, leaving 210 people dead and 2,100 injured.Since June 15, China has sent charter planes to ship altogether 80 tonnes of relief supplies, worth 11 million yuan, to Kyrgyzstan and neighboring Uzbekistan which was flooded with Kyrgyz refugees after the clashes, according to China Southern Airlines.

ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 127 people have been confirmed dead in rain-triggered mudslides Sunday in a northwest China county, while rescuers are racing against the clock to search nearly 1,300 others who are still missing.Heavy downpours triggered landslides and mud-rock flows in Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Gansu Province, early Sunday morning.The rescue headquarters in Zhouqu estimated that 1,294 people are missing as of 9 p.m. Sunday. Earlier the provincial civil affairs department put the figure at nearly 2,000.Another 117 were injured, including 29 in serious condition, as of 9:25 p.m.. In addition, 1,242 have been rescued from debris or brought to safety from places such as tops of buildings.About 45,000 people have been evacuated, according to a statement from the provincial civil affairs department.The water level in the county seat of Chengguan Township had declined by 40 cm, after floodwaters carrying mud and rocks submerged half the town in the small hours on Sunday, said Mao Shengwu, head of the prefecture.Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao instructed the Gansu provincial government and other related departments to spare no efforts to save lives. BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Rainstorms and floods sweeping through south China have left at least 118 people dead and 47 missing since July 1, said a statement on the Civil Affairs Ministry website Wednesday.By 4 p.m. Wednesday, more than 32.3 million people in 10 southern provinces and Chongqing Municipality had been affected by continuous rainstorms and floods, the ministry said.About 101,000 houses were destroyed and close to 1.1 million people had been relocated, it said.Direct economic losses were estimated at 22.2 billion yuan (about 3.3 billion U.S. dollars).In Anhui Province alone, at least four people had been confirmed dead since July 8, whereas direct economic losses amounted to 2.3 billion yuan.The ministry had allocated 3,000 tents, 3,000 folding beds, and 20,000 quilts to Anhui.In Hubei Province, rain-triggered floods and disasters have left 28 people dead and two others missing since July 3, the provincial civil affairs administration said Wednesday.Rains and floods have disrupted lives of 9.24 million people, forcing more than 256,700 people to be relocated. Nearly 34,000 houses toppled and 923,700 hectares of crops were damaged, incurring 7.64 billion yuan in direct economic losses.In Yunnan Province, at least three people were killed and more than 1,000 residents were affected after a downpour hit Hongqiao Township in Lijiang City Wednesday.
