The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on pets.More than 4 million dogs, cats and other animals in the U.S. could be living in poverty with owners in the next 6 months, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).If the national unemployment rate stays around 10%, more than 24 million pets could be in poverty. That's a 21% increase compared to February, before the pandemic.Pet food and veterinary care can be expensive. The ASPCA says a lack of affordable vet care and limited access to spay and neuter service are reasons driving people to give up their pets.RedRover is helping people afford care. They're seeing a 24% increase in urgent care grant applications compared to last year. The average amount of money they give out is 0.“It’s a very small amount of money, but what we've found is it really is that stopgap between helping them start service with start care with a veterinarian so you know just having a little bit to get going,” said Nicole Forsyth, President and CEO of RedRover.Your pet has to have a diagnosis before you can apply for a grant at RedRover.org. The Cambridge Analytica?scandal has thrust Facebook privacy settings into the national conversation after the political firm used the personal data of about 50 million people without their consent.Now, Mozilla is helping Firefox users keep their Facebook data secure so they won't be exploited in the future.The company has introduced a Firefox extension that it says will make it much harder for Facebook to track which websites you browse.Facebook has developed a network of trackers that tell the social media site which of its users are visiting certain webpages, like online retailers. Facebook will then use that information to serve its users ads based on what products they've been viewing.Mozilla says its Facebook Container extension will make it much more difficult to track which websites you visit, and keep your browsing information private.Mozilla admits the extension isn't perfect. In a blog post, the company said that the extension would not have prevented user information from being abused in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. It also says that Facebook Container would not work well on sites which require you to use Facebook information to log in.But Mozilla says the simple step of downloading the extension is giving power back to internet users. "Troves of data are being collected on your behavior on the internet, and so giving users a choice to limit what they share in a way that is under their control is important," the company wrote.To download Facebook container, first download the free Mozilla Firefox browser if you're not already using it. The captain of a duck boat that capsized in July on a Missouri lake, killing 17 people, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with the wreck.Kenneth Scott McKee, 51, faces 17 counts related to "acts of misconduct, negligence or inattention to duty," one for each victim, according to the indictment, which was announced Thursday by the US Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, Tim Garrison.The violations are colloquially known as "seaman's manslaughter," Garrison said.A federal grand jury found that McKee failed to properly assess incoming weather before and while he put the vessel in the water, entered the vessel on the water as severe weather approached, failed to instruct passengers to put on personal flotation devices and operated the duck boat in violation of its conditions and limitations, among other acts, according to the indictment.The federal criminal investigation into the deadly wreck on Table Rock Lake, near the tourist hub of Branson, Missouri, began after the US Coast Guard in July determined the deaths resulted from the captain's actions. The investigation is ongoing, Garrison told reporters Thursday.Ripley Entertainment, which runs the duck boat tours called Ride the Ducks Branson, did not immediately respond Thursday CNN's requests for comment. McKee's attorney, J.R. Hobbs, confirmed to CNN he is reviewing the indictment against his client but is not making any additional comment regarding the allegations.McKee is not in custody, Garrison said, adding that the charges announced Thursday are the first criminal indictments related to the incident.
