SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego officials plan to expand and speed up an audit of water billing issues, after admitting more than 300 residents were incorrectly overcharged last year.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, joined by City Councilmembers Chris Cate and Lorie Zapf, City Auditor Eduardo Luna, and Public Utilities Department (PUD) Director Vic Bianes, said the audit will help find any possible inaccuracies and suggest any needed changes."San Diegans need to be able to trust that their bills are correct, that the new technology we are implementing is working properly, and that every cent they pay goes to making sure we have safe, reliable water," Faulconer said. "I welcome this independent review of operations to determine how we can better serve our customers and reassure them that we are doing everything we can to ensure the accuracy of their bills."RELATED: Woman gets 0 water bill. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County sheriff's deputies fished a man out of the ocean in Del Mar who they say rammed a Border Patrol truck at the end of a dangerous chase.According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's North Coastal Station, it all started when deputies tried to pull the man over in a blue Smart car driving with no lights or a license plate. The driver failed to stop and took out a road sign then drove the wrong way down Coast Boulevard in Del Mar around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.A few minutes later, the man crashed into a Border Patrol truck at the dead-end of 15th Street. No one was inside the truck at the time.Border Patrol agents spotted the driver running towards the beach. The man jumped over the bluffs' edge and plunged naked into the water, where he spent two hours in the surf.He was taken into custody after he was fished out of the ocean by a Border Patrol boat around 4:15 a.m.Deputies are currently attempting to identify the suspect. 982

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego City Council leaders will consider several measures aimed at lessening the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic in San Diego.Among the legislation are measures that place a moratorium on evictions due to non-payment from loss of wages due to COVID-19, prevent immigration enforcement operations at hospitals and other healthcare facilities, and provide relief from utility shutoffs or late fees because of non-payment due to coronavirus.“The COVID-19 pandemic is already causing harm throughout our communities and across our regional economy, impacting vulnerable families, individuals, and businesses,” City Council President Georgette Gómez said. “We must act immediately to protect those who most are at risk of devastating financial hardship.”The council will also request Gov. Gavin Newsom implement a temporary moratorium on residential evictions due to loss of wages caused by the outbreak.Council leaders also plan to request Mayor Kevin Faulconer enforce earned sick leave and minimum wage ordinances, place a temporary ban on vehicle habitation fees and impounds, and work with hotels to offer rooms to unsheltered individuals and families. 1187

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego is expecting cooler temperatures this week, but another heatwave isn't far behind. Local air conditioning companies have been swamped with service calls. Philo Mitman is a service technician with ASI The White Glove Guys."When this heat does come, our call volume is tripled, quadrupled cause everyone needs it now," said Mitman. Mitman said it's important to replace filters, possibly every month, depending on use. "A dirty filter is the biggest thing as a homeowner that can cause bigger issues because if that is neglected the big motors can get seized up, they can overheat , you can block coils off which causes big, big problems," said Mitman.Another common mistake, according to Mitman, is closing vents. "Common misconception is that people close vents off to save money, when in fact, it actually costs you more money when you do that because your system is designed for a certain amount of air flow to be delivered to the home and if you start cutting that off , the system tries to make up for that so it works extra harder," said Mitman. Mitman also suggests testing the system before it's needed."Run some stuff, it's like an old car, you can't just let it sit forever you gotta test it out." 1244
