TUCSON, Arizona — A Tucson, Arizona man who had been in an altercation fired a gun at a police officers, hitting one of the officer's belt. The belt prevented a bullet from entering his body.That man, 51-year-old Roy King, was in a bar with his wife and family when an argument started. King's stepson, who was at the bar, called 9-1-1.During the argument in the bar, King allegedly pulled out a handgun and threatened two people. King then headed to his home.Tucson police officers went to the home in response to the 9-1-1 call and found King's vehicle in the driveway. When the officers approached the car, King started to yell at them from the backyard. He still had the handgun.During the confrontation between King and two officers, gunfire was exchanged. One of the rounds fired by King hit an officer's duty belt. The belt stopped the bullet from injuring the officer.King then went inside his home and called 9-1-1. Additional TPD officers went to the home and were able to talk King into coming outside. He was not injured and was taken into custody.Roy King was booked into Pima County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. One for the incident at the bar, and one for the incident at the home.The incident is still under investigation. 1310

Vice President Mike Pence will provide a COVID-19 briefing to healthcare workers in Philadelphia on Thursday.The briefing is the second coronavirus-related briefing in as many days for the vice president. On Wednesday, he held a briefing at the Department of Education in Washington that mainly focused on the Trump administration's plan to reopen schools by fall.At that briefing, Pence promised that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would be releasing new guidelines — echoing criticism from President Donald Trump, who claimed Wednesday that the current CDC guidelines were "too tough." Pence repeatedly said during Wednesday's briefing that the administration did not want the CDC guidelines to "get in the way" of schools reopening in the fall.However, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield said Thursday morning that while the agency would be releasing more information regarding schools, the current guidance would not change."It's not a revision of the guidelines, it's just to provide additional information to help schools be able to use the guidance," Redfield said on ABC's Good Morning America.Pence's briefing in Philadelphia is scheduled to begin at about 4:20 ET. 1196

(KGTV) - Federal aviation authorities reported the crash of a single-engine plane with two people on board in East San Diego County Wednesday night.The Champion CH7B was reported overdue at Gillespie Field in El Cajon around 9:30 p.m.Thursday morning, search crews found the wreckage of the plane in rough terrain in Descanso, about 17 miles northeast of the airport. The Federal Aviation Administration did not release immediate information about the two occupants of the plane."The terrain is so rugged there’s not even roads to get out to that area. The only way in is through helicopter," said Sheriff's Lt. Damon Blankenbaker.Deputies established a command post at Three Sisters Falls trailhead. (KGTV) - A North San Diego County resident resorted to Wild West measures after he was the victim of a crime, creating "Wanted: Dead or Alive" posters to find a thief.The San Diego Sheriff’s Office says approximately ,800 worth of items ranging from power tools to a mountain bike were stolen from a home on Valley Center Road on February 16.SDSO was working the case when the homeowner told deputies he had hung posters with the suspect’s image bearing ‘wanted dead or alive’ and the station’s number around town.“We don’t encourage vigilantism,” said Sgt. Russell Ryan.Ryan says SDSO asked the man to remove the posters but the man claimed he was exercising his first amendment rights.SDSO’s Valley Center substation took to Twitter to clarify they were, in fact, looking for the suspect but there was not a death warrant for alleged thief.Deputies were able identify the suspect as 23-year-old Jose Martinez, thanks to the homeowner's surveillance video. Martinez was taken into custody on Wednesday.Martinez is currently being held at the Vista Detention Facility on several burglary-related charges and is believed to be related to other recent thefts, according to SDSO.Sgt.
