The National Park Service on Thursday unveiled a new plan to hike entrance fees at national parks with more modest increases than the ones it proposed last fall. The proposal calls for raising fees at many national parks?by around in the next year, with some seeing an additional increase in 2020. The new plan will apply to the 117 national parks that charge fees, not to the two-thirds of national parks that do not have entrance fees, the agency says. The entrance fee for the Grand Canyon, the nation's most popular park that charges an entrance fee, will climb by to per vehicle starting June 1. An annual pass for the Grand Canyon will climb by to , according to the park service numbers. The original proposal, unveiled in October, called for more than doubling peak-season admission at 17 popular parks to . The response to that plan was highly negative, the Interior Department told The Washington Post earlier this month.Increasing entrance fees will help the park service address a nearly billion backlog of maintenance projects, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has said.Zinke said the new plan is more "balanced" and will raise about million in additional revenue per year. The National Parks Conservation Association, a nonprofit group that opposed the original proposal, said Thursday that the "more measured fee increases will put additional funds into enhancing park experiences without threatening visitation or local economies."Sen. Tom Udall of New Mexico, the top Democrat on a committee that oversees federal funding for the National Park Service, said he was not convinced the increase was justified and that he would be asking the department for "a much more detailed explanation" of its rationale. 1770

The Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly traded All-Star guard Chris Paul to the Phoenix Suns.According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, OKC has reportedly traded Paul and Abdel Nader to the Suns for Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre Jr., Ty Jerome, Jalen Lecque, and a 2022 first-round draft pick. The Thunder will most likely look into flipping Rubio and Oubre Jr., with contending teams drawing interest into them both.According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Suns‘ future first-round pick to OKC is protected 1-12 in 2022, 1-10 in 2023, 1-8 in 2024, and unprotected in 2025.It seems the Thunder are in a rebuilding mode, having also traded Dennis Schr?der to the Los Angeles Lakers and naming a new head coach. 717

The makers of the popular video game Fortnite have a big supporter in their corner as they go to battle against Apple - Microsoft.A few weeks ago, Epic Games introduced Epic Direct payments, a direct-payment plan for Apple's iOS and Google Play that bypasses the App Store.Apple said the service violated its guidelines, so they removed the game from the App Store.Epic, in return, took legal action. On Sunday, Microsoft issued a statement, which was tweeted out by Xbox boss Phil Spencer, that explained they were backing up Epic in their court battle because "Apple’s discontinuation of Epic’s ability to develop and support Unreal Engine for iOS or macOS will harm game creators and gamers." 703

The jarring noises and machines inside the Usheco plastics warehouse sound like home to the Schaeffer family.“My grandfather, Bernarr Schaeffer, started the business in ’61. So, proud to be third generation,” said Alethea Shuman, who will one day take over the company for her father. The company started with the World War II fighter pilot, and now, more than 60 years later, nearly every member of his family has worked inside these four walls.“It’s like having your own team. There’s an extra level of trust that you just don’t get elsewhere,” said Wayne Schaeffer, Bernarr’s son and the President of Usheco. They build all kinds of plastic devices. The company is known for air purifying planters, handicapped equipment, and laboratory supplies.“Our business was really founded on my grandfather wanting to make health-related products,” said Shuman. Now, this family is seeing a huge boom in some new products. At the start of the pandemic when everything shut down, Usheco had to lay off much of their staff because business dropped by about 40 percent. However, they designed face shields and desk barriers and had to bring everyone back on and hire extra workers on just to fulfill all their orders.“We only cut everyone’s hours for one week," said Shuman. "The following week, we were back to full-time hours for everyone."Hundreds of thousands of face shields and plastic desk barriers in custom shapes and sizes are coming out of this factory. While most businesses are in need of help themselves, the plastics industry is one of few seeing pandemic profits.“Things are looking pretty good for us,” said Schaeffer. “How can you not be thrilled to be helping out and making your business grow?”The Schaeffers say their U.S. made products are growing to a global scale. “Our pricing is similar to China now,” said Wayne.“We’re seeing new quotes coming in for things that are typically done overseas and were grateful to be able to help with that,” said Shuman.Shuman said by the time she takes over the business, she hopes the products keeping her grandfather’s legacy alive are no longer in stock.“I’m hoping we figure out a way to get past this and we’re not going to need PPE and sneeze guards, and the business coming back to the U.S. is going to support us. And from what I can see, that’s happening,” she said. But more important than business, is carrying on a tradition.“Over the last few months, we really have understood where our roots are and where we’re going,” she said.Towards a future where simple, plastic products mean more than ever before. 2571
