SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fans and players on Petco Park's field fled as hundreds of bees swarmed near the Padres' dugout Sunday afternoon.At about 4:06 p.m., in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Fox Sports reported a queen bee landed on their microphone and hundreds of bees followed suit."It made my skin crawl," Padres Fan Kel Loftis said."Out of the blue all of the sudden you saw everybody running off the field," Padres Fan Bob Pollack said.As fans saw the area clear out, some were concerned for their family's safety, "it was kinda crazy like what's going on?" Loftis said. As a military man, he was concerned something more serious was happening.Then everyone in the stadium saw the television screens with a close up on the swarm. "Between [Austin] Hedges, [Josh] Naylor and [Glenn] Hoffman, you know the third base coach, I was wondering who was more panicked," Loftis said chuckling.Padres Catcher Austin Hedges was seen wearing a Deadpool mask, sweatshirt and holding two bats, seemingly ready to battle the bees. A man from Cartwright Pest Control came out to save the day. Fans dubbed him "Bee Man." The delay in total was less than 30 minutes.The Padres confirmed the company is out at the park for every game in case of an event like this.A group of Girl Scouts in the crowd were concerned about the safety of the bees. This isn't the first time Petco's had bees, a swarm showed up in July of 2009 and delayed the game by almost an hour.While fans thought the bee delay Sunday was strange, they took it in stride.Some parents used it as a teachable moment. "Well she had a lot of questions so the first thing she said was why are the bees out there?" SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For months San Diego bee removal companies have been swarmed with calls to remove hives, but where is best to relocate them?One Encinitas company has a solution, hooking up property owners who want bees with beekeepers."When your house gets invaded by bees, instead of spraying them with poison we take them out alive and chemical-free and find good homes for them," said James Mcdonald, founder of the Encinitas Bee Company.Mcdonald will relocate hives to homes or businesses interested in hosting a hive; then a local beekeeper will tend to them."Hundreds of potential beekeepers living in apartments would love to keep bees, but they have no land," said Mcdonald. The Host a Hive program is free for property owners, and they get to keep any honey produced. Mcdonald said he shared a post on Nextdoor about the program and was flooded with messages from people wanting to host a hive. He currently has several bee hives at home that he'd like to relocate. "I'm bursting at the seam and really need people and beekeepers that are willing to help me," said Mcdonald. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Employees at a Little Caesars franchise location in Logan Heights say their paychecks are bouncing and management is not responding to their concerns. The workers say the problems started in March, and they told 10News they've received paychecks, only to have them bounce a few days later and racking up banking fees every time. The employees 10News spoke to, from the National Avenue location, did not want to be identified. When they spoke out to supervisors, the employees claimed they were told to not to bother upper management. Other times, they said, they were left in the dark with no response. Employees identified the owner as Tony Bith, saying he owns at least a dozen Little Caesars locations throughout San Diego County. The one in Barrio Logan on Main Street is also closed; the National City Location on Plaza Boulevard is still open. 10News tried to reach Bith by phone but did not hear back as of the publication of this story. 10News also attempted to make contact with him at his home address, but could not access him because he lives in a gated community. 10News reached out to Little Caesars corporate to find out if they were aware of what was going on and they sent the following statement: 1243

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hundreds gathered outside Fire Station 21 in Pacific Beach Tuesday evening to remember a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department firefighter killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend.Ryan Ferrara, 39, was riding on the back of the motorcycle as a passenger when it crashed into a parked vehicle. It happened July 18 at the 13000 block of Piping Rock Lane in the Lakeside area.The driver of the motorcycle was hospitalized; he has not yet been identified. Authorities say neither the driver nor Ferrara were wearing helmets.RELATED: San Diego firefighter killed in Lakeside-area motorcycle crashThe crash is still under investigation, but the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office says alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the crash.Many who knew Ferrara were visibly distraught during Tuesday's remembrance ceremony. Rich Marcello, who worked with Ferrara, says it's a Fire Station 21 tradition to go down to the beach and watch the sunset after every shift when possible."Every evening, we come out and watch the sunset and gather round each other and kind of hang out with each other, which is why we're here with the family today," he said.Before he was a firefighter, Ferrara was a lifeguard.
