SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — CAL FIRE San Diego firefighters quickly knocked down a brush fire in San Marcos on Thursday, amid Santa Ana winds and dangerous fire weather conditions throughout the county. The 3-acre fire, dubbed the Sycamore Fire, ignited near Sycamore Dr. and Cox Rd. just before 12:30 p.m., according to CAL FIRE. Fire crews reported the fire began in heavy fuel and had a moderate rate of spread, but were able to halt its spread within about 30 minutes.Firefighters will remain on the scene for several hours to mop-up and further contain the fire.Thursday, dry Santa Ana winds created high fire danger throughout the county. A Red Flag Warning was in effect Thursday through 10 p.m. on Saturday for the county's valleys, foothills, and mountains. The combination of near-record low fuel moisture, strong winds, and low humidity dropping between 6 and 12% will create critical fire conditions.A High Wind Warning will be in effect for the same areas until 6 p.m. on Thursday. Northeasterly wind gusts of 30 to 60 mph are expected with isolated higher gusts in the wind-prone areas. Winds will be strong enough to bring down trees and power-lines.At least 70,000 San Diego Gas & Electric customers were without power Thursday morning due to public safety power shutoffs amid the high winds. 1319

It was in the summer, to like go big. And one of them said, 'Diagon Alley'," he said.Chambers was fully committed to making this the best Diagon Alley fans had ever seen, but he had to leave his job to accomplish this project.  He decided to create the real-life Diagon Alley in his driveway. Chambers has been a creative director for more than 20 years and focusing on the details was his forte. At this Diagon Alley, muggles are allowed in. They walk into a magical filled with an assortment of shops and items on Hogwarts'  supply list. SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a California community college instructor with ties to the far-right extremist "boogaloo" movement is in custody on suspicion of sending misogynistic and threatening letters to a county health officer involving the pandemic. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that deputies arrested 55-year-old Alan Viarengo and seized 138 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition from his home in Gilroy. Viarengo is charged with felony counts of stalking and threatening a public official. Dr. Sara Cody, the health officer for Santa Clara County, has been one of the nation's most visible proponents of social distancing and wearing masks. His attorney defended Viarengo as a respected professor. 755

Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she isn't running for president in 2020."I am not running for president in 2020," Warren told CNN's Jim Acosta on Saturday.Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat and staunch critic of President Donald Trump, made the statement in an interview for CNN's "State of the Union."Acosta also asked if she gets upset when President Donald Trump refers to her as "Pocahontas.""It's about my family's story. Because my family's story is deeply a part of me and a part of my brothers," Warren said. "It's what we learned from our parents. It's what we learned from our grandparents. It's what we learned from our aunts and uncles."I went to speak to Native American tribal leaders and I made a promise to them that every time President Trump wants to try to throw out some kind of racial slur, he wants to attack me, I'm going to use it as a chance to lift up their stories," she added. While speaking at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania Saturday night, President Trump brought back his derisive nickname for Warren. He predicted that the media would be bored covering her 2020 election campaign."If I don't win the election, (news) ratings are going to go so far down, they'll be out of business, every one of them," Trump told a crowd of supporters. "Can you imagine? Can you imagine covering Bernie or Pocahontas? Pocahontas, how about that?"The lawmaker said the same thing about her political future to Chuck Todd of NBC News in an interview for "Meet the Press" when pressed about her Senate re-election campaign and her pledge to fulfill her six-year term."For the people of Massachusetts, and for the people across this country," Warren said. "This government is working better and better and better for a thinner and thinner slice at the top. I am in these fights, and I am in this fight to retain my Senate seat in 2018. That's where I'm focused. That's where I'm going to stay focused. I'm not running for president." 1954

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — For more than 20 years, Casey Rummerfield has been the toast of Halloween in his San Marcos neighborhood.Hours spent throughout the year on handmade electronic displays, decorations, and more turn his Shadow Hills Drive home into a memorable tradition for his neighbors, family, and friends."It's more hours than it is money. The cannon prop is home built," Rummerfield says, pointing to various props, barrels, and displays he has built by hand. "I would say about a thousand [hours] a year is what we put into it."RELATED: Clairemont electrician lights up neighborhood with Halloween displayRummerfield's love for Halloween began as a child, though his talent for delivering some spooky fun started when he moved in on Halloween Day in 1993.Since moving in, what started as a need to actually dress up the house for Halloween has blossomed into providing an annual celebration for the neighborhood.Rummerfield's family and friends have been integral in setting up and keeping the tradition alive. And while his children have grown up and moved out, he says they've taken a lot with them.RELATED: Map: San Diego neighborhoods you'll want to check out on Halloween"My youngest has vowed that when it's my time to retire, she's going to take over," Rummerfield says with a smile. "They've texted me more this month than they have all offseason."Rummerfield says one child is currently at Facebook while the other is studying costume and set design and as a special effects make-up artist — perhaps predictably."[She] got an A on her horror class. Brought me to tears," Rummerfield said gleaming. That enthusiasm for Halloween has carried over to the neighborhood year-after-year, seen in Rummerfield's efforts.RELATED: Halloween family fun, haunted houses, and parties in San Diego"You have to see it to believe it. On Halloween Day, their enthusiasm, their drive, their willingness to come back for the umpteenth year," Rummerfield says. "We've not only had the kids come back, but they've grown up and brought their kids."Which is a little difficult, because it does make us feel old," he added. 2201
