Many of his employees live in Tijuana."They're just hurting more businesses, and they're hurting the people who are holding the economy right now," said Tamez.The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency started implementing the new measures Friday. They're designed to discourage people from traveling to Mexico for non-essential travel."You've got this, history of many decades of people going across for work purposes or for business purposes things that have nothing to do with leisure or tourism, these are people whose livelihood depends on the border, so you're affecting that large group of people," said Gustavo De La Fuente, executive director of the Smart Border Coalition.De La Fuente said he understands the move to an extent."In some cases, people should stay home, if you want to go into Ensenada or Rosarito for tourism purposes, right now is not the best time to do it," said De La Fuente.A spokesman with CBP sent 10News a statement, that reads in part:"According to the U.S Customs and Border Protection, a recent survey of more than 100,000 travelers on the southwest border found that the vast majority of cross-border travel by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents is for purposes that are not deemed essential. To respond to the ongoing public health crisis and protect local southwest border communities, CBP is taking measures to discourage non-essential travel to and from Mexico to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the United States. "Tamez said it's the people working the hardest who will suffer the most."I find it to be very cruel, these people already, before would have to get up 3 hours early just to get to a job here," said Tamez.Similar measures are in place in Tucson, El Paso, and Laredo Texas. (AP) — An active-duty U.S. Air Force sergeant accused of killing a Northern California sheriff’s deputy in an ambush-style attack was a leader for a military base’s elite security force. Officials said Monday that Staff Sgt. Steven Carrillo was a team leader for the Phoenix Ravens that protects airfields at Travis Air Force Base. Carrillo has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting Santa Cruz sheriff’s sergeant Damon Gutzwiller on Saturday afternoon in Ben Lomond, an unincorporated area near Santa Cruz. SAND IEGO (KGTV) -- A Scripps Ranch woman turned 100 and did not let a pandemic spoil her day. Nora Marsh lives with her daughter Donna. They had planned an extravagant party that was canceled due to coronavirus.Neighbors did a drive-by celebration and family and friends by the dozens wished her a Happy 100th in a recorded zoom message.Marsh was the daughter of Russian immigrants and grew up in Brooklyn. In 1936 she became one of the first women in the city to get a license. “People would point and say is that a girl driving!? It was so unusual,” said Marsh. Marsh made the circuits as a comedian and married her husband Leonard who was a WWII veteran. Chuck Schumer plans to propose legislation decriminalizing marijuana, Vice News reported Thursday."I'll be introducing legislation to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level from one end of the country to the other," the New York Democrat told Vice News. "The legislation is long overdue."Schumer, the Senate minority leader, told Vice that he had "seen too many people's lives ruined because they had small amounts of marijuana and served time in jail much too long."He added that it was "the right thing to do."According to Vice News, the legislation will be introduced in the next week, and it will include taking marijuana off the Drug Enforcement Administration's controlled substance list.Schumer also told Vice News the legislation will "maintain federal authority to regulate marijuana advertising in the same way it does alcohol and tobacco." 874
