SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — President Trump wants to restart the U.S. economy by April 12, but multiple economists, governors and health officials are expressing skepticism about that date amid efforts to flatten the curve of coronavirus infections.Still, the longer the shutdown lasts, the harder it will be for businesses to get up and running, economists say. Alan Gin, an economist at the University of San Diego, said if this lasts through April, it should be survivable for many businesses. However, anything beyond that could render reopening less likely."Some businesses are not going to be able to hang on, even with the help that is coming from the federal government, so they will end up closing for good," Gin said. San Diego's economy is hurting as thousands of restaurant, retail and hotel workers are laid off amid the coronavirus restrictions. Meanwhile, the people who are working from home have very few places to spend their money. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On this holiday, some extra thanks for a Clairemont family, months after an expectant mother was placed on a ventilator from COVID-19."This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful to be here with my family," said Ashley Duque.That family includes Ashley, her husband Diego, their daughter Anna, 3, and the newest addition, three-month-old Lucas."He came out our miracle baby," said Ashley.The miracle emerged from a pandemic. In March, 17 weeks into her pregnancy, Ashley was hospitalized with coronavirus, before being placed on a ventilator for five days."It was very, very scary," said Ashley.She spoke to ABC 10News from her hospital bed while recovering. Ashley was discharged after more than two weeks, but she would be back for nine different surgeries from complications from the COVID-19 treatment.Most of the surgeries involved removing scar tissue in her throat caused by her time on the ventilator.Then in August, Ashley was back in the hospital, as she went into labor three weeks early."I was nervous and scared," said Ashley.Despite her COVID battle and her other health issues, Lucas Duque was born August 25, weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces. He was healthy."We’re just very blessed that nothing happened to him," said Ashley.On this Thanksgiving holiday, there is a mix of emotions. Ashley is still having issues with the scar tissue, but Ashley and Diego are feeling an overwhelming feeling of gratitude."In a flip of coin, anything can happen. It is only happening virtually. Because of that, San Diego's hospitality industry is suffering a considerable loss.The 51st Comic-Con International is called Comic-Con @Home. This means, there are no crowds, cos-players, or lines around San Diego's Gaslamp District. The good part is that all panels are free for attendees. The bad part?"We're losing 100% of the Comic-Con business," Daniel Drane, owner of The Field Irish Pub, said.For the last 22 years, Drayne has operated the establishment on 5th Avenue, a street usually packed with visitors during the pop entertainment convention. He says every year, regulars from around the world have drinks and hold meet-ups at his bar. Not this year."We're not just losing business, but there's a loss of some of the people that we've actually known for years," Drayne said.Comic-Con's COVID-shutdown does not just impact Downtown San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One man is dead and three people have been detained for questioning after a reported shooting overnight in Paradise Hills.San Diego Police arrived at a home in the 6200 block of Childs Avenue just after 1 a.m. Saturday over reports of a shooting. Officers arrived to find a 20-year-old, later identified as Tyshawn Powell, lying in the driveway of the home and a family member performing CPR.Fire-Rescue arrived to continue life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.Police said the man had been shot at least once. Neighbors were interviewed about the reported gunshots in the area and as a result, an adult male and female, and a juvenile male were detained. According to police, Angelo Roshon Richardson Jr., 19, and Mikayla Ann Castillo, 18, as well as a 17-year-old were detained. Richardson was booked into jail for murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm while Castillo was booked into jail for being an accessory to murder.
