She is also concerned about her three kids too young to accept any bitter reality."I can't see the distressed faces of my children, I can't bear the fear that looms in their eyes, they know that with every coming day their mother is moving a step forward to death," Samina told Xinhua in a very low tone.When Samina and all other patients of that gloomy medical ward for breast cancer patients, in Nuclear Medicine Oncology and Radiography (NORI) hospital in Islamabad, were told that October is being observed as breast cancer awareness month they murmured that the awareness message should be reached to every nook and corner of the country this year so that no other woman would die due to unawareness.In a country like Pakistan where one in nine women is prone to breast cancer and around 40,000 women die every year due to lack of awareness of this disease. They come to visit oncology department of hospitals at a stage when the chances of survival are very remote.Omer Aftab, National Coordinator of the Pink Ribbon, said that Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer among Asian nations. BRUSSELS, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) --- The European Commission on Friday gave the green light to Microsoft's acquisition of voice and video communication provider Skype, thus removing the last hurdle in the process.According to a statement released by the Commission, "the deal would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (The EU plus Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway) or any substantial part of it."The Commission explained that it found that in the area of consumer communications, the parties' activities overlap in video communications, where Microsoft is active through its Windows Live Messenger.However, the Commission considered that there were no competition concerns in this growing market where numerous other players, including Google, were present.Skype was bought by eBay in 2005 at the price of 4.1 billion U.S. dollars, and sold out at 2.75 billion U.S. dollars in 2009. RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec 15 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff Thursday signed a law banning smoking in public spaces and tobacco advertising at sale places in his country.Smoking in all enclosed public spaces, defined as free access areas used simultaneously by several people, is forbidden in the new law.It also prohibits tobacco advertising such as posters or banners at sale places. Previously the ban was only imposed on TV, radio and billboards advertising.In addition, the law increases the taxes and establishes minimum prices over the tobacco products to discourage buyers, therefore the cigarettes prices are expected to increase 20 percent in 2012 and 55 percent by 2015.Health warnings are also required on both sides of cigarette packs to alert consumers about the consequences of their smoking habit.The law is welcomed by some anti-smoking groups."In addition to protecting the health of its citizens, Brazil has also set an example for the world," said Matthew Myer, president of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
