SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man attempting to kill weeds set his house on fire in San Diego on Sunday morning, according to firefighters.The man was trying to use a hand-held propane torch to kill the weeds in a planter box in front of his property when the plants caught fire.Shortly after the plants caught fire, the flames spread to the rest of the house.Firefighters arrived quickly and were able to extinguish the flames in about 5 minutes.Authorities estimate there is about ,000 in damage to the house.No one was injured. 533

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Carlos woman says a buzzing sound caught her off guard at home. When she looked around, she spotted a drone hovering near her bedroom window, peering in.  Yvette Skalka was hanging her laundry in the backyard on September 6 when she heard the noise. She says she looked up and a small, white drone. “It hovered for a good 3 to 5 minutes.  It gave me an uneasy feeling. It didn’t feel right,” said Skalka.The drone flew up to the top of a palm on the property for a few minutes, before flying back down.“It was near three dogs and driving them crazy, like it was tormenting them,” said Skalka.Eventually, the drone flew off.  Skalka filed a police report and posted details on the Nextdoor app.  Another neighbor responded that she believed the same drone has recently hovered near her ground-floor bedroom, watching her college-age daughter.  That family also filed a police report. 956

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was arrested Thursday after attacking police with railroad spikes and rocks in a Barrio Logan train yard, police said.San Diego Police were called to the BNSF Railway Yard along Harbor Drive around 10 a.m. to reports of a trespasser. Officers arrived to find a man who had armed himself with a stick and railroad spikes, police said.The suspect reportedly threw the spike at officers and fled under a rail car, refusing to come out. The man also threatened to kill a police K-9 on scene, SDPD added.Police created "decision making space" and tried to talk the suspect into surrendering. After those efforts failed, officers used shotgun beanbags, pepper balls, and eventually a K-9 officer to get the man to surrender. He was pulled from under the railcar and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries, including dog bites, police confirmed.No officers were injured during the event. 927

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A jury returned several guilty verdicts Friday against a La Jolla restaurant owner accused of raping eight women who he either drugged or knew were too intoxicated to consent to sex.Jurors found 61-year-old Daniel Dorado guilty of 20 counts in connection with alleged rapes that happened in 2009, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018. Some of the counts Doroado was found guilty of include two counts of rape of an unconscious person; two counts of rape of an intoxicated person; two counts of assault with intent to commit rape, sodomy oral copulation or sexual penetration of an unconscious or intoxicated person; two counts of sexual penetration of an unconscious person with an unknown object; and two counts of sexual penetration of an intoxicated person with an unknown object.Dorado had faced 35 felony counts. The jury acquitted him on three counts, deadlocked on six counts, and have not yet reached verdicts on six remaining counts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A preliminary hearing started Wednesday morning for the San Diego County deputy accused of sexual misconduct.Richard Fischer was in court Wednesday after seven women have accused him of sexual misconduct since November of 2016.Earlier in May, a settlement was reached in two cases against Fischer.
