Marriott International says a guest reservation database has been breached and may have exposed information of approximately 500 million guests.The company says it is investigating and addressing the incident that involves the Starwood guest reservation database. They received an alert on Sept. 8 from an internal security tool regarding an attempt to access the Starwood guest reservation database. Marriott quickly called on security experts to help figure out what happened.Security experts learned there had been unauthorized access to the Starwood network since 2014. On Nov. 19, Marriott was able to decrypt the information and determined that the contents were from the Starwood guest reservation database.For approximately 327 million guests affected by the breach, the information accessed includes some combination of name, mailing address, phone number, email address, passport number, Starwood Preferred Guest account information, date of birth, gender, arrival and departure information, reservation date, and communication preferences.Marriott says they have established a dedicated call center (USA: 877-273-9481) to answer questions guests may have about the breach. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican authorities say gunmen burst into an unregistered drug rehabilitation center in central Mexico and opened fire, killing 24 people and wounding seven.Police in the north-central state of Guanajuato said the attack occurred Wednesday in the city of Irapuato. Apparently, the attackers shot everyone at the rehab center. Three of the seven wounded were reported in serious condition.State police say nobody was abducted.Guanajuato is the scene of a bloody turf battle between the Jalisco cartel and a local gang.No motive was given in the attack, but Mexican drug gangs have killed street-level dealers at such facilities in the past. 666

Tony Evers ordered the state's National Guard troops to withdraw from the border with Mexico Monday, drawing the ire of a Republican congressman from Illinois who says he serves in the Wisconsin National Guard and the border mission is honorable.Former Republican Gov. Scott Walker ordered troops to Arizona in June to assist with administrative duties along the border. Evers, a Democrat, issued an executive order Monday withdrawing them. MALIBU (CNS) - Santa Ana winds were expected to continue to plague firefighters battling the deadly Woolsey Fire in Los Angeles and Ventura counties Tuesday as officials re-emphasized to evacuated residents that they must stay away until the area has been declared safe.Winds of 25 to 35 mph were forecast to blow with gusts of 40 to 45 mph, National Weather Service Meteorologist Joe Sirard said. Those wind speeds are likely to drop to 25 to 30 mph Tuesday night into Wednesday with gusts to 40 mph.That prompted the NWS to continue its Red Flag Warning through 5 p.m. Wednesday for the Woolsey Fire area in Los Angeles and Ventura counties -- except Malibu, where the Red Flag Warning is set to expire at 5 p.m Tuesday. High temperatures of 70s to low 80s are predicted through Wednesday with lows near freezing ``in wind-sheltered areas,'' Sirard said.The latest Woolsey Fire update from Cal Fire had at least 435 structures destroyed, 24 structures damaged and the estimated number of structures still threatened about 57,000.The blaze has burned about 93,700 acres and was 30 percent contained, with full containment not expected until Thursday, Cal Fire said. The two people who died were found inside a burned vehicle in a long driveway in the 33000 block of Mulholland Highway.``It's the feeling of homicide detectives that the driver became disoriented and the vehicle was overwhelmed by the fire,'' sheriff's Chief John Benedict said.Three firefighters have been injured battling the Woolsey Fire. MEDINA, Ohio — With every move of a foot or lift of a leg, 13-year-old Isabel Kirby inspires herself and the people around her."More exercise equals more progress," she said. "If you don't have a good attitude about it, you're not gonna feel up to doing things."The teen from Chippewa Lake, Ohio, was suddenly paralyzed from the waist down eight months ago and was diagnosed with a rare, rapid onset disease known at acute flaccid myelitis or AFM.Isabel is making great progress working with therapists twice a week at the main campus at Akron Children's Hospital and their facility in Medina, Ohio.Back in January, Isabel said she was unable to move her legs.During therapy this week, she lifted her legs from a table and a wheelchair and walked with braces called reciprocating gait orthosis (RGO). Physical therapist Renee Parsons provided assistance and encouragement.Isabel is also able to move the pedals on a stationary bike with electrical stimulation and swim in a pool on her own. She can almost stand upright holding the sides of the pool."She just blows me away, honestly. Amazing. She is focused and motivated and strong and brave," said her mom, Noel Kirby.In a few weeks, the family will head to New Jersey to allow Isabel to participate in Project Walk, which helps people recover from life-changing paralysis. Donations through a GoFuneMe account are helping to pay the out-of-pocket costs for the five-day visit.Isabel, who plays softball and is heading into eighth grade at Cloverleaf Middle School, remains hopeful that one day she will be able to walk again on her own."I think I could get to that point," she said."She's gonna do it. She's gonna make it happen," her mom said. "She's trying everything she can to get to where she wants to walk again."Hours after the Kirby family opened presents on Christmas morning, Isabel complained of weakness in her legs.Her parents thought it was growing pains or possibly dehydration, but the next day, Isabel was unable to walk. The eventual AFM diagnosis stunned the family."I just think that people need to know that this is out there, that this exists because we didn't," Noel said.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently warned of a potential AFM outbreak by the end of the year.There have been more than 600 confirmed cases nationwide since the CDC began tracking the illness in 2014. The numbers have spiked higher in even years, which is part of the reason for the concern over 2020.However, Dr. Matthew Ginsberg from Akron Children's Hospital, stressed AFM is still very rare with about 200 to 250 U.S. cases in peak years."Any child who has an onset of weakness in the arms and legs should seek emergency medical attention," Ginsberg said.Medical experts say many children with AFM will have a fever or respiratory illness days before the weakness occurs. AFM has been associated with Enterovirus D68."It's thought to be caused either by a viral infection that affects some of the nerve cells in the spinal cord or inflammation reaction to that viral infection," Ginsburg said.Isabel is thrilled that she's doing better as she works towards her goal to walk again while stressing that keeping a positive attitude is important to her recovery."Life happens, honestly.
