I love the possibilities,” she said.Swapp has always been crafty, whether in the workshop or at her home.“Photos and stories are super important to me and it brings me joy,” she said.However, for a few years, she couldn’t bring herself to create anything.“When Cory passed away, I just couldn’t scrapbook anymore,” she said.Cory is her second oldest son.“Cory called me and told me that he loved me and told me goodbye,” she said with tears in her eyes.Just months after his 16th birthday, Cory died by suicide.“I was completely shocked,” Swapp said. “I didn’t even know that was tumbling around in his mind.”She said Cory was seeing a therapist at the time of his death.“We had met for about an hour and it was a very tender and wonderful conversation,” she said.About 45 minutes later, Cory was gone.“The hard thing about suicide is you’re left with questions and it’s not one question, it’s 10,000 questions,” Swapp said. “It’s questions that you will never have answers for.”Through a podcast called “Light the Fight,” Swapp started talking about the things most families struggle to talk about – mental illness.Alongside her for each weekly episode is Cory’s therapist.“Both of us had been in that room and both of us had been trying to help him,” she said.Now, they help others.“I believe 100% that if we can shine light and if we can talk about stuff, then we’re in the fight and we can go to work,” she said.It was what motivated Swapp to go back to work and to create once again.In a way, Cory is there too. GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Several dozen students interrupted an event featuring actress Jenna Fischer at DePauw University Tuesday to protests recent racial incidents on and near campus.Many of them held signs with things claiming they are "afraid for their lives" after recent events. Fischer, star of the sicoms "The Office" and "Splitting Up Together" was at the university to discuss her new book, "The Actor's Life: A Survivor's Guide."University Spokesman Ken Owen, who was moderating the lecture with Fischer, said about 15 minutes into the program a group of students got up and began interrupting the event whistling, shouting and saying they were afraid for their safety on campus because of the recent racial incidents. Last week, a hateful message was found written in a bathroom at the university. The message, which read " All ******* must die -KKK," was written on a bathroom wall of the Inn at DePauw, a public building on campus. Another anti-Semitic and homophobic messages were also found. The video above was captured during the Tuesday evening protests by Shannon Samson. Another event being investigated by the university involves a hateful slur written in rocks at the DePauw nature park, which is owned by the university. Owen said there was a meeting with the school president Tuesday over the events and that have happened up until that point and they expect more meetings in the future. DePauw University issued the following statement on social media after the event.  1573

GENEVA — The U.N. health agency says the world’s largest randomized trial of COVID-19 treatments found “conclusive evidence” that remdesivir, a drug used to treat U.S. President Donald Trump when he fell ill, has little or no effect on severe cases. The World Health Organization has announced long-awaited results of its six-month “Solidarity Therapeutics Trial” that endeavored to see if existing drugs might have an effect on the coronavirus. The study, which was not peer-reviewed, found that four treatments tested — remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir/ritonavir and interferon — had “ little or no effect on 28-day mortality or the in-hospital course of COVID-19 among hospitalized patients.” Remdesivir was the only drug of the four that had not largely been ruled out as ineffective in fighting COVID-19. 826

General Electric was blasted on Wednesday by workers, retirees and shareholders bemoaning the downfall of the company they love.At its annual meeting, GE got an earful from employees and investors who pleaded with management to right the ship after a disastrous year."I believe it was arrogance and a series of bad business decisions," former employee Bill Freeda said. "Our board of directors clearly has been AWOL."Another shareholder said: "GE, which was once one of the preeminent companies in the world — the bluest of blue chips — is now an embarrassment."The past 12 months has been one of the darkest periods in GE's 126-year history. A cash crisis, brought on by years of bad deal-making, forced GE to cut its dividend in half and lay off thousands of workers. GE's stock price has crashed by 50%, and calls to kick it out of the Dow have grown louder.Despite the deep criticism of past and current GE leaders, the company's nominees to the board were all elected on Wednesday.
