A Key deer fawn was rescued from a brush fire Sunday in the Florida Keys.  Monroe County Fire Rescue firefighter Jen Shockley responded to the brush fire in Big Pine Key shortly after it started Sunday afternoon.While protecting a home and with the fire moving rapidly, Shockley rescued the fawn.“I jumped into the flames and saved the little guy,” Shockley said in a written statement. “He was all by himself and running for his life into the fire.”The uninjured Key deer was given oxygen, water and wrapped in a sheet. 538

However, when the pandemic hit, she had to reevaluate what was best for her family.“I switched to doing just a couple of virtual sessions on my computer during the week,” said Stewart. "It ended up that it was just too much to handle here, with the kids screaming in the background or climbing on me while I am trying, so I ended up stopping altogether.”It was a bittersweet decision. She was sad to halt a blossoming career, but grateful her family could afford to make that decision. She felt it was safer for her children and worth the sacrifice on her end. Stewart’s decision has become a common one for women across the country. The latest data from the Department of Labor shows that between August and September, 865,000 women dropped out of the labor force, compared to 216,000 men. That is essentially women dropping out of the workforce four time faster than men.“The number of women who have left is startling,” said C. Nicole Mason. “Because at the beginning of the year, we were celebrating the fact that women were 50% of the workforce, so we have lost significant gains since then.”Mason is the president and CEO of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.“We can draw the direct line between the lack of childcare and daycare closures to women exiting,” said Mason.Experts, like Mason, are concerned a decade or more of women’s equality and progress in the workforce could be erased, if women continue to drop out of the labor force at this rate.“Employers have a role to play by making sure workplace policies are flexible, providing access to childcare,” said Mason. “The federal government has a role to play by instituting a national care infrastructure that will do more to keep women in the workforce by making sure they have childcare and other supports."Many companies have begun to offer more flexibility during the pandemic, but the data indicates more may need to be done. In terms of government responding to this disproportionate loss of women in the workforce, the childcare industry has been calling on Congress for funding for weeks. The industry’s plea is not only to save providers but to support women needing their service to go back to work. Congress has not been able to make true progress toward a new stimulus package, for months now.In addition to the disproportionate number of women who have already left the workforce, a new study shows another one in four women are considering leaving or downshifting their careers because of COVID-19. 3014

A convent outside Detroit faces devastating losses from the coronavirus.13 sisters have died from COVID-19, with a dozen passing away in the same month.They were members of the Felician Sisters Convent in Livonia.The first death was on Good Friday: a nun who was 99-years-old.The youngest victim was 69-years-old.The last sister who passed away initially survived the virus, but died from its effects in June.On June 22, the convent issued a statement saying that 42 sisters had the deadly virus and 29 of them survived. This is not happening in my town," a woman, allegedly Anderson, said in the video.In addition to charges of civil rights violations, Anderson and Nelson also face charges of vandalism under 0 and possession of tools to commit vandalism or graffiti. A Fort Hood soldier has been identified as the victim of a drowning in a Texas lake over the weekend.Officials say the body of Spc. Francisco Gilberto Hernandezvargas was recovered after a boating incident on Stillhouse Hollow Lake. The lake is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Lampasas River, southwest of Belton. The 24-year-old, whose home of record is listed as Woodside, New York, entered the army in May 2017 as an automatic rifleman and has been assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division since December 2017.The Bell County Sheriff's Office was alerted that a male, while riding an inner tube behind a boat, went under water and did not surface on Saturday. This took place in the area of Dana Peak Park on Stillhouse Hollow Lake, according to officials.His body was recovered on Sunday.Hernandezvargas’ awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon.“The Black Knight family is heartbroken by the loss of Spc. Francisco Hernandezvargas. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time,” said Lt. Col. Neil Armstrong, commander of 1st Bn. 5th Cav. Regt. “Spc.
