LOS ANGELES (AP) — ViacomCBS says it's cutting ties with Nick Cannon because of what the media giant called his 'hateful speech" and anti-Semitic theories. The company's move came in response to remarks made by Cannon on a podcast in which he discussed racial bias with a former Public Enemy member, Richard Griffin. According to NBC News, Cannon said on the podcast episode, which was shot last year but aired on June 30, that Black people were the "true Hebrews" and talked about anti-Semitic conspiracy theories involving the Rothschild family.Cannon produced "Wild 'n Out," a comedy improv series for VH1, the ViacomCBS-owned cable channel. He accused the company in a lengthy Facebook post of trying to silence an "outspoken black man" and said he wants full ownership of the "Wild 'n Out" brand. "If I have furthered the hate speech, I wholeheartedly apologize," Cannon wrote. "But now I am the one making demands. I demand full ownership of my billion-dollar ‘Wild ‘N Out’ brand that I created, and they will continue to misuse and destroy without my leadership! LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Public health officials in Southern California are taking extra precautions this Fourth of July weekend as Los Angeles experiences a spike in COVID-19 cases.The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is ordering the county’s beaches be closed Friday morning through Monday morning. Officials hope this prevents dangerous overcrowding that could result in the spread of the novel coronavirus.For that same reason, the department is also prohibiting fireworks displays in the county during the holiday weekend.Beach parking lots, piers, bike paths and access points will be closed, as well.The health department says key metrics show steep increases in community spread. On Monday, officials announced more than 2,900 new cases of COVID-19, which is the single largest one-day case count since the pandemic began.Projections by the Department of Health Services show a clear increase in area hospitalizations in the coming weeks, which could cause a surge in the health care system.“Closing the beaches and prohibiting fireworks displays during this important summer holiday weekend was an incredibly difficult decision to make, but it’s the responsible decision to protect public health and protect our residents from a deadly virus. LORAIN, Ohio - A family has filed a lawsuit against the Lorain County School District in Lorain, Ohio after their daughter was wrongly accused of bringing drug-laced candy to lunch in September and suspended.Shannon Ciotti and her daughter have filed a suit naming the district, the Lorain City Board of Education, every board member, the district CEO and the Lorain Police Department.Ciotti said her daughter was suspended immediately from Southview Middle School after being accused of bringing tainted candy, before any test was ever conducted on the candy. The director of out of school suspension cited Ciotti’s daughter with a level three violation – possession of marijuana edibles.The lawsuit states a 10-day suspension turned into 21 because the police department took so long to test the candy. The box of Milk Duds was not properly tagged as evidence and sat on a shelf in the police department, “untested and abandoned,” the court filing states. It was only after the crime lab found out from Ciotti that the evidence was improperly tagged that they tested the candy.The family also contacted the Hershey Company, who tested the batch of Milk Duds for illegal substances, the suit states.Hershey came to the same conclusion that Lorain police eventually did: the candy contained no illegal substances.According to the lawsuit, the teen has been harassed and ridiculed since returning to Southview Middle School. Fellow students have called her names like “pothead,” and a teacher allegedly mocked the girl, saying, “I hope you’re not planning on exchanging candy. We’ve been down that road before.”The lawsuit seeks ,000 in compensatory damages and over ,000,000 in punitive damages for negligence, gross negligence and defamation on behalf of the school and police. 1796
