BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Overseas Chinese say they are pleased with the economic stimulus measures discussed at China's two top political conferences and think the proposals will provide a good road map for the future.     The two conferences, known as the "two sessions," are the Second Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), which was to end Friday, and the Second Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which closed Thursday.     Speaking of Premier Wen Jiabao's work report to the NPC, overseas Chinese in the Czech Republic said they are confident for the future development of their homeland.     Ni Jian, chairman of the Czech Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, together with others, said they were pleased as Wen said in his speech that China "must not slacken efforts" to promote its exports amid a sharp decline in external demand.     Wen said "We will continue to diversify our export markets and compete on quality, enhance traditional export markets, and energetically open up new markets," adding the government is to take a series of measures to relieve the difficulties of exporters.     Ni said the proposed measures lighten the way for Chinese business people abroad.     Hu Zhiheng, a Wenzhou businessman in Italy, said he was most impressed by Wen's remarks that the government will make efforts to "ensure steady growth in foreign trade."     As a matter of fact, China had already adopted a series of measures before the two sessions that included such things as raising export rebates, loosening credit, and abolishing or cutting customs tariffs, he said.     The overseas Chinese were mostly concerned with the economic policies released at the two sessions and how the government will be responding to the global financial crisis in order to maintain stable development, Luo Yuhong, chief editor of Capital News in Belgium, told Xinhua.     Lu Chengrui, head of the U.S. Shandong Association, said he holds high expectations for the two conferences, and hopes all of the plans can be implemented.     Zhan Aixia, head of the New York Beijing Association, said after reading the government work report that she expects her country to develop a stronger economy and intensify cultural exchanges with the United States.     In addition, Chinese students in Japan, Belgium and Italy also kept a close eye on China's development.     In Belgium, student Chen Fang said she was especially interested in issues concerning employment as she planned a career in China after graduation.     Wu Changbo and Chen Yao in Italy described Wen's work report as China's commitment to the world amid the economic crisis.     In the face of great challenges and difficulties, China still pledged an 8 percent economic growth, which they said has showcased the confidence of the country.     Wen's statement that put a priority on the employment of college students and the advancing of education were inspiring, they said, adding that they wish they could use the knowledge they have acquired abroad to serve the motherland after graduation.     Li Guangzhe, chief of the Chinese students' association in Japan, told Xinhua that the group cares most China's ongoing process of building a harmonious society and the role it plays in the world platform.     Li said he found the answers to those questions in the premier's work report.     The confidence delivered in Wen's report will give impetus to the development of the whole world and demonstrates that China is a responsible global power, he added.

BEIJING, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev held talks in Beijing Thursday afternoon.     The heads of states agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in all fields and join hands to tackle the challenge of international financial crisis. After the talks, Hu and Nazarbayev signed a joint declaration and witnessed the signing of 10 agreements on cooperation in the fields of transport, education, agriculture and telecommunications. The two sides should further optimize trade structure, expand the scale of bilateral trade, work together to build major energy and resources projects and non-resources projects, and accelerate infrastructure construction at border areas.     Thirdly, the two countries should promote cultural exchanges and cooperation. China is ready to deepen cooperation with Kazakhstan in culture, education, health, tourism and sports. He said the two countries should encourage non-governmental organizations, media and youth organizations to expand contact and enhance friendship.     Fourthly, the two countries should deepen security cooperation and join hands to tackle various challenges. He said China will continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Kazakhstan within such multilateral frameworks as the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. He said the two countries should join effort to strike trans-border organized crimes and the evil forces of separatism, terrorism and extremism so as to safeguard peace, stability and security of the two countries and the whole region.     Nazarbayev fully agreed with Hu's suggestion, saying under the current situation, Kazakhstan is ready to strengthen its strategic partnership with China. He expressed the willingness to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, transport, agriculture, finance and telecommunications.     He said the two countries should continue to step up cooperation in multilateral arena, especially within the frameworks of the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.     He said the two countries will work together to fight against the three evil forces of separatism, terrorism and extremism to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world over.     Nazarbayev reiterated that Kazakhstan supports China's stance on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet. SHENYANG, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- A senior Party official on Tuesday called for all-out efforts to safeguard fairness, justice and social stability, through improving the political and legal work and developing the law-enforcement sector.     Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks at a workshop on political and legal work and safeguarding stability in northeast China, held in Shenyang, the capital of northeastern Liaoning Province.     Zhou, who also heads the Central Political Science and Law Commission (CPSLC) of the CPC, made an inspection tour of the three northeastern provinces of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning from Feb. 11-16 and attended the workshop on Wednesday.     The senior Party official urged local authorities, political and legal departments in particular, to implement central government's policies and integrate their efforts to safeguard social stability with efforts to achieve economic development.     "Social stability relies on economic development," he said.     Zhou told local authorities to conduct an assessment on social risks before deciding on a new policy. Officials should visit communities and villages to hear complaints from the people and learn about people's will, so as to resolve contradictions and disputes at the grassroots level, he said.     The official urged leading officials and law-enforcers to play a role in protecting the dignity and authority of socialist legal system.     "Every citizen must express their will and protect their rights in a reasonable and lawful way, so as to jointly safeguard the general stable situation of reforms and development," he said.     Law-enforcement must always give top priority to the Party's cause, the people's rights and interests, and the Constitution and law, Zhou said. He urged law-enforcers to be a guard for the safety of people's life and properties as well as social fairness and justice.     The workshop was presided by Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu, who is also a state councilor and deputy secretary of the CPSLC.     Wang Shengjun, president of the Supreme People's Court, also spoke at the workshop.

BEIJING, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's state assets watchdog will closely watch over projects implemented by state-owned enterprises(SOEs) in the country's massive stimulus package to prevent corruption, an official said here Sunday.     The State-owned Assets Supervision and Management Commission (SASAC) will strictly look into the progress and fund use of projects by SOEs directly under the central government, said the SASAC director Li Rongrong.     Many projects are estimated to see over tens of millions of yuan put in, making it a more important task to fend off corruption, he said at an SOE meeting on disciplinary inspection work.     China unveiled a stimulus package with a total investment of 4 trillion yuan (586 billion U.S. dollars) in November to boost domestic demand and offset the world economic slowdown.     Of the total, 100 billion yuan had been allocated by the central government by the end of last year.     Li said inspectors will particularly focus on projects in such sectors as power grids, telecommunications, transportation, equipment, construction and metallurgy.     The SASAC will also check whether the projects cause environmental hazards, consume too much energy and resources or result in excessive capacity, said Li.     A total of 4,960 Chinese officials above the county level were punished in a year ending November 2008, data show. They were involved in corruption and commercial bribes, hurting people's interests.
