HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Tampa strip club is suing a child sex trafficking victim — the latest development in a court battle involving the club where the victim says she was trafficked. Now the victim's mother is speaking out for the first time.Scores Gentleman's Club filed a countersuit in mid-July against the child sex trafficking victim, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe. The strip club's response comes six months after Jane Doe sued the business, accusing the club of hiring and exploiting her when she was 17 years old.The victim's mother, who was granted anonymity to protect her daughter's identity, says she's shocked the club took legal action against her daughter."I was disgusted and saddened, and I still can't believe it," the victim's mother said. The victim's lawsuit, filed in January, accuses the club of exploiting a minor with mental disabilities, stating she "was repeatedly touched, groped, molested and propositioned to engage in prostitution with explicit sex acts being proposed.""She was dancing, to her recollection of 15 to 30 minutes of her being hired there," the victim's mother said. "There are things she's experienced that she will never get over she has bad dreams, she has PTSD, she can't sleep at night."Luke Lirot, the attorney for Score's Gentlemen's Club, defended his decision to countersue Jane Doe for damages."She was absolutely competent enough to trick the people that work at my client's club," Lirot said.In the countersuit, the club says Jane Doe tricked them into hiring her by using a fake ID. It states she had "...full knowledge that the presentation of a fake ID was fraudulent and untrue, thus making an intentional misrepresentation."Lirot said the countersuit is the only way to get to the truth."To find this out sufficiently and to hold the people responsible that had deceived my clients, this was the only option I had," Lirot said.Jane Doe's attorney Michael Dolce said he plans to file a motion to dismiss the countersuit in Hillsborough County Court."You cannot legally blame a child abuse victim for their own abuse," Dolce said.Dolce filed the original case against the club. It states Jane Doe was brought to the club in 2017 by Robert Torres.According to court documents, employees at the club introduced her to drugs and alcohol. Police later arrested Torres for trafficking and he pled guilty to lesser charges in the case.Scores is also suing Torres for intentional misrepresentation. As for the victim, her mother says she's still in therapy. This story was originally published by Jackie Callaway on WFTS in Tampa, Florida. 2618

Hackers breached an Equifax payroll-related service in March, months before the company said criminals accessed the personal records of 143 million people. On Monday, Equifax said the March incident was unrelated to the recently disclosed hack that occurred between May and July 2017."The criminal hacking that was discovered on July 29 did not affect the customer databases hosted by the Equifax business unit that was the subject of the March event," Equifax said in a statement.Security breach disclosure laws require businesses to disclose hacks if they include personal identifiable information like social security numbers, drivers licenses or state IDs. Equifax says it reported the March incident to customers, affected individuals and regulators.According to a report from Bloomberg, an insider says the same intruders were involved in both breaches. However, Equifax denies the incidents are related.Equifax did not provide additional information about the March breach, but journalist Brian Krebs reported that between April 2016 and March 2017, hackers accessed tax records through Equifax subsidiary TALX, a payroll and tax service provider.Equifax hired cybersecurity firm Mandiant to investigate both the March and July incidents."Mandiant has investigated both events and found no evidence that these two separate events or the attackers were related," Equifax said in a statement. The vulnerability used to access 143 million records was disclosed in March. Equifax has said it was aware of the vulnerability at the time and took efforts to patch it, however, the hackers used the flaw to steal information months later. The credit reporting agency announced the breach on Sept. 8 and confirmed the breach occurred between mid-May and July.It is unknown who was responsible for the hack disclosed earlier this month. The FBI and the Federal Trade Commission are investigating the breach. Two Equifax executives -- its chief information officer and chief security officer -- retired on Friday. 2089

'Horse Museum' is the latest book by Dr. Seuss, launched Tuesday at UC San Diego's Geisel Library. The library sold copies of the book at a launch party in the Seuss room Tuesday. The book is about art, and helps kids of all sizes learn about art and museums. Lynda Claassen, the Director of Special Collections and Archives for the Geisel Library says the book is a treasure, found in a box by Audrey Geisel, Theodor's widow, in 2013. It was not a full book she discovered, merely a manuscript with storyboard pages. Using that manuscript, illustrator Andrew Joyner finished Seuss' work. Inside the book, there is horse artwork from greats like Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollack, as well as cameo appearances by familiar characters like the Cat in the Hat. And Claassen promises it won't be the last: "there is more to come. There is always more." Theodor Geisel died in 1991, and there have been other posthumous works published, including 2015's 'What Pet Should I Get?'His wife Audrey died in December 2018. 'Horse Museum' is available for purchase at UC San Diego and other bookstores, as well as on Amazon. 1121

George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign adviser who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, is making his first appearance testifying on Capitol Hill later this month.Papadopoulos is expected to testify behind closed doors before a small group of lawmakers on the House Judiciary and Oversight committees on October 25, according to two sources familiar with the matter. The interview is part of Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy's investigation into the FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton email and Russia investigations, although Democrats are likely to press the former Trump foreign policy adviser on potential Russia collusion, too.Papadopoulos has also been in discussions with the Senate Intelligence Committee for an interview, according to one of the sources. And California Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, has expressed a desire to speak to Papadopoulos as part of his investigation into potential collusion between Trump's team and Russia. Schiff and the House Intelligence Committee Democrats interviewed Papadopoulos' wife, Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos, in July.A committee aide said the panel's Democrats are still interested in talking to Papadopoulos and "look forward to scheduling an interview at the appropriate time."Papadopoulos tweeted?Thursday that he was coming to Capitol Hill, suggesting there was an effort to discredit him and his wife before he testified and denying any involvement with Russian collusion."The attempt to discredit my wife and I before my testimony on capitol hill has reached a fever pitch," he tweeted. "Someone is nervous. I think America was smart enough to realize that someone who has never knowingly met a Russian official in their life never could have colluded. Fake news."Papadopoulos pleaded guilty last year to lying to the FBI over his contacts with individuals tied to Russia during the 2016 campaign. He lied about his interactions with Maltese professor Joseph Mifsud, who told Papadopoulos that the Russians had "thousands of emails" about Clinton, according to the charging documents from special counsel Robert Mueller.Papadopoulos told CNN's Jake Tapper last month that he did not recall sharing the information from Mifsud with anyone on the Trump campaign, though he did not completely shut the door on the possibility. "As far as I remember, I absolutely did not share this information with anyone on the campaign," Papadopoulos said, adding, "I might have, but I have no recollection of doing so. I can't guarantee. All I can say is, my memory is telling me that I never shared it with anyone on the campaign."He was sentenced in September?to two weeks in prison, which he has not yet served.Since the sentence, Papadopoulos has suggested on Twitter that British intelligence officials were behind his meeting with Mifsud.A lawyer for Papadopoulos did not respond to a request for comment. 2961
