SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A winter storm warning was issued for San Diego County’s mountains as a cold storm hit the region Monday..The warning is in place from 8 a.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.“The agency says heavy snow and strong winds are expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Monday. Tree branches could fall as well,” forecasters said.Total snow accumulations of two to six inches are expected with localized amounts of 12 to 18 inches. The heaviest snow is expected to impact areas above 5,500 feet, however, some snow is expected down to 4,500 feet.Accompanying the snow are heavy winds of 20 to 40 miles per hour.RELATED: Check today's forecast in your area“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” the National Weather Service advised.A high surf advisory also takes the place of a beach hazards statement as the storm approaches. The advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Wednesday for San Diego County coastal areas.Surf begins to build Sunday, peaking Monday afternoon through Tuesday, the agency says. Waves and surf of three to six feet are expected Sunday, increasing to four to seven feet with sets to eight feet by Monday.Accompanying the high surf is a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms and lighting at the beaches Monday, the National Weather Service said.Coastal areas could also see nearly an inch of rain as the storm passes. 1533

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A University City man is hoping to warn others after someone with a BB gun shot him during his daily jog.On Tuesday, 70-year-old Taurone was nearing the end of his daily three-mile jog northbound on University Town Center Drive just after 6 p.m."Very calm, enjoying the evening. Hardly any traffic out in the neighborhood," said Taurone.On the sidewalk near the Renaissance Towne Center, his calm jog was suddenly interrupted by pain."Jogging along and felt a sharp sting in the lower portion or my chin, so I stopped. It felt like an extremely large pimple. I was pushing on it, and something round and hard came out of my skin fell onto the ground," said Taurone.A stunned Taurone, who didn't have his glasses, didn't look for the apparent BB pellet."When I realized I what it was, and that I had been shot, I was very angry," said Taurone.Taurone, who was shot on the right side of his face, believes the shot came from the shopping center area. He briefly scoured the area but didn't see anyone. Bleeding from his chin, he jogged home. He's doing fine now, but he's still upset."If the shot had been 6 to 8 inches higher, it would have hit me in the eye," said Taurone.Taurone has no clue about a motive, but he knows he was the intended target."Makes sense because I was the only moving target in the area," said Taurone.Taurone has been interviewed by police, who told him they haven't received reports of similar incidents in the area. He's now worried about what may happen next, because of the boldness of the attack. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- According to a recently-released autopsy, a combination of cocaine, alcohol and blunt chest impact caused a man to die during a punching game in March downtown.The medical examiner ruled the death of 27-year-old Corey Poole an accident Monday. According to authorities, Poole went out drinking at Jolt’n Joe’s downtown just before 1 a.m. with friends.Police said Poole and one of his friends then decided to have a punching contest. Poole and his friend then started “consensually sparring” and punching one another in the chest.RELATED: Man killed in Gaslamp Quarter punching game identifiedIt was then, according to police, that Poole fell to the ground and became unresponsive. Poole was taken to the hospital where he later died.Poole’s friend was also taken to the hospital for chest pain following the incident. 850

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A street in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter is shutting down starting Thursday for bars, restaurants and other businesses to create more space for customers.From Thursday to Saturday, Fifth Avenue will be closed between G and L streets as a way to help break up potential overcrowding as downtown businesses reopen.The street closure will start at 11 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, with “Curbside Gaslamp” running from 3 p.m.-12 a.m. on both days. 469

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A unique way to watch movies outdoors is coming to San Diego's waters.Floating Cinema is coming to San Diego on Sept. 2 - 6, organizers say. Tickets will go on sale here.The cinema will include 12 to 24 mini boats that can hold up to eight people per boat. Tickets will require individuals to purchase the entire boat to make sure groups are seated with friends and family only, and to allow for distancing between boats.Throughout the week, the cinema will screen a mix between golden oldies and new releases that will be announced when tickets go on sale. Popcorn will be offered for free, while other movie snacks and drinks will be made available for purchase.Ticket options and movie screening details will be released closer to the event.
