SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Since his start as a chalkboard artist in San Diego, Craig Haskett, better known as "Scrojo," has captured imaginations with his art.Heavily influenced by San Diego's surf culture and punk rock music, it wasn't long before Scrojo's work exploded onto the local music scene. It also struck a cord on the corporate playing field, including commissioned works for Nike, Disney,  and Harley-Davidson.If you've lived in San Diego for a while, there's a good chance you've seen Scrojo's poster art — even if in passing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Schools in San Diego County are readying emergency plans in case the coronavirus prompts schools closures like the ones in Washington state.At least a dozen schools in the greater Seattle area were closed Monday after health officials confirmed at least six deaths linked to the virus in that state.The San Diego Unified School District said in addition to cleaning efforts by its custodial staff, it was lining up outside contractors who could “provide large-scale deep-cleaning of classrooms or entire schools should it become necessary.”The County Office of Education said it planned to distribute a template pandemic response plan to all 42 districts soon with guidance on everything from prevention to post-outbreak recovery.“We’re lucky we don’t have any cases of community spread in San Diego County, so we have some time,” said COE spokeswoman Music Watson. “We’re using that time to think through, if we need to close schools, what about e-learning? What about community kitchens?”The Office of Education is encouraging districts to consider a range of “distance learning” options, in the event of longer-term school closures. Those options include issuing photocopies of lesson plans, posting recorded lessons online, and conducting teacher “check-ins” and tutorials by phone or web conferencing.Several districts have sent letters home to parents in recent days encouraging discussions about hygiene and handwashing, including Sweetwater Union High School District and Chula Vista Elementary School District.“We get that people are a little scared and we want to make sure we do as much as we can,” said CVESD spokesman Anthony Millican.Millican said local district have experience responding to viral outbreaks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students at Gompers Preparatory Academy were evacuated following a threat the school said it received Monday. San Diego Police say they received a call around 3:50 p.m. after someone reportedly left a voicemail on an administrative line at the school, making a vague bomb threat. A staff member at the school pulled a fire alarm, initiating the evacuation. "GPA received a telephonic threat after school today and the campus has been evacuated," the school said in an Instagram post. According to authorities, the students were evacuated to a nearby park. Roughly 80 students were still on campus along with 30 to 35 staff members. Police arrived and used a K9 to comb through the school, but found no trace of a bomb. An investigation is underway to determine who left the voicemail. Today was the first day students returned to class at the academy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starting Sunday night and going until May 30, construction crews will close either northbound or southbound lanes of I-5 overnight to begin construction of the Mid-Coast Trolley.Drivers will see heavy equipment and machinery on the freeway, and residents can expect to hear loud construction noise during the closures.The project will start with a large support column for the trolley bridge in the freeway center divider.The trolley is being built to extend the Blue Line eleven miles north from the Old Town Transit Center to University City, running through Mission Bay Park, the VA Medical Center, UC San Diego and Westfield University Town Center Mall.The Mid-Coast Trolley is expected to start running in fall 2021. 748

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego pro-Dreamer groups called Monday for President Trump to support the Dreamers’ rights to remain in the U.S.San Diego Border Dreamers said Congress failed in providing a path to citizenship and permanent protection from deportation.The group raised funds to allow members of its board of directors to travel to Washington, D.C. and be part of the discussion.Also Monday, MEChA de SDSU and supporters held a protest at Hepner Hall to encourage the university to become a sanctuary campus for immigrants. 537
