MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Police District 2 officers were heartbroken to find a dog abandoned for several days in a cold pickup truck.Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee crews were there just in time to see the rescue as police broke into the truck at 17th and National Avenue.Parking tickets on the windshield show it had been there since Saturday. As of Tuesday morning, the car still remains at that location.There was no food or water inside, but the seats were soiled with feces.Despite all of this, the dog seemed to be in good spirits.Offices took it to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, better known as MADACC.Doctor Libby Gutting checked him out. She tells us you should call police if you see a dog alone in a vehicle for more than an hour."An animal could suffer from hypothermia or even pass away from that so we definitely don't want to leave animals outside in any sort of condition especially for a car that's not running," said Dr. Gutting, Medical Director of MADACC.Dr. Gutting said the pitbull is in great shape.If his owner does not come in to claim him in five days, he could go up for adoption."Our concern is that this person has an issue with the way they need to care for their pet which means they need help," said Dr. Gutting.The captain with Milwaukee Police District 2 told WTMJ the owner, in this case, could face an animal cruelty charge.  1419

MILWAUKEE -- Six cars were damaged Friday when light poles fell across traffic lanes on I-43 near Milwaukee.According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a red pick-up truck heading northbound hit both of the light poles in the median just before 3:30 p.m. A witness at a law firm off Hampton Avenue said she saw the truck drive up onto the median and hit one pole, before continuing on to hit a second. "Unfortunately one of them kind of struck the side of the car, put a hole in the door, took a mirror out," said Jim Lovering, whose daughter called him after swerving to avoid the two poles.Lovering's 7-month-old grandson was also in the car. "Just missed the windshield, which was a blessing," said Lovering. The camera caught deputies taking away the driver of the red truck in handcuffs. Authorities have not yet released any information confirming an arrest, or possible charges. The accident caused backups for miles during rush hour, as crews worked to remove the poles from the roadway. No one in any of the cars was injured. "It was just nice that she had the space to maneuver and without hitting anybody else or causing any further damage," said Lovering. "It could be potentially you know a serious accident. Thank God it didn't happen."  1341

The second-highest day was Monday, with just over 115,000 people hospitalized.Several mobile field hospitals are being erected in California to handle the growing surge of COVID-19 patients.In California alone, state officials reported 700 new hospitalizations on Tuesday. Doctors and nurses say they are treating patients in hallways and parking lots because of the lack of space for more people.The California Department of Public Health reports there are 0% ICU beds available in the large Southern California region, including Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as the San Joaquin Valley region in the center of the state.The record high number of people in the hospital with a transmissible disease is straining medical facilities, as well as staff.Leaders around the country say they are increasingly worried about staffing levels at medical facilities. At a time when there are surges in patients needing intense care, there are staffing shortages and staff balancing quarantine measures. Because “hot spots” are popping up almost everywhere, there are not many doctors or nurses who are available to help other regions.California says they are in need of about 3,000 temporary medical workers to meet the demand.
